So shocked and saddened to hear that singer Cilla Black has died at her holiday home in Spain at the age of 72.
She was an icon on our TV screens and her songs such as "Anyone Who Had A Heart " Alfie and many others are songs that she made her own and she will be missed by her millions of fans.

My American friend just emailed me this news. I am stunned.
I first saw Cilla in concert when I was 16 and several times over the years - last time on her 40th birthday here in Edinburgh and she was fantastic, met her afterwards and she was so nice and funny to the fans.
I have a good friend who is Cilla mad but I can't get hold of him just now, he will be devastated.
Rest in peace Cilla.

It sickens me when the nasties come out the woodwork when someone famous dies, on tributse to Cilla someone has put "No Great Loss". For goodness sake, she was a mother as well as a star. If they can't say something nice then why don't they keep it shut?
Obviously any star does not appeal to everyone but they bring happiness to thousands of people, It must be hurtful to her loved one's.

I can see what you mean about the nasties Karl. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but to express it in such a way is surely unnecessary.
Cilla may not have been everyone's favourite singer but she was highly regarded by millions at that time and this was the Sixties and Seventies when TV was full of good pop music programmes and entertainment at it's best, she was all part of that era and I remember when our daily newspaper was delivered it was the TV and radio page that we first turned to specially at weekends because there was always a variety show to watch and enjoy with top celebrities and stars like Cilla that puts todays programmes to shame. In fact most of the time now I don't even bother to look to see who and what's on.

Yes , a stroke just like my mum. I'd left her side to bring the car up to the door and when I went back that's what I found, in a matter of minutes your whole world is upside down! so I know what Cilla's sons are going through.

Karl- that must have been dreadful for you and will stay with you forever
Lena and Harry how I agree about the TV especially ITV who seem to have sunk to an all time low with so many adverts and programmes like BBQ Champ-what next!
At least we have Frank Sinatra on Friday-BBC 4 plus Bradley is back on Saturday night

Thank god for BBC 4 Sandra. " The Joy Of Listening" 7. 30 .. "All Or Nothing At All " 9.'O Clock . Fifteen minutes of Sixties pop , before the Sinatra Proms concert.
I always watch The Chase, but never watched Bradleys Saturday night programme. I'll give it a go.
Karl, the shock of finding your mum in those circumstances are something that's impossible to forget. My elderly mother lived in the flat next door to us and I took her in her usual early morning cup of tea and found her on the floor unconscious and with a head wound. She was taken to hospital where she later died.

L&H you are right, mum had come down two flights of stairs and on the final five steps I found her lying face down with her body on the steps. I had flashbacks for months of that image and will never forget it.
Mum lived for three weeks but only spoke a few words as she slipped deeper and deeper into a coma, they tried taking her off a certain medication but every time they did she would take a seizure, it happened in front of me once and it really shook me so badly I was unable to drive that night. It was horrible seeing your mum go through that, I just felt it was cruel as everyone loved my mum.
The day the hospital called to say mum had passed away my great nephew was here, he was three and a half then and when he heard the news he said to me "Great granny was my pal". Nobody prompted him he just came out with it, I just hugged him for those words. Never underestimate the wisdom of a child.
You also had a similar experience so you know that feeling, your heart just drops to your feet.
