Has anyone on the forum heard of a singer called Gogi Grant? I had never heard of her, but apparently she was a popular American singer of the 50's and had a big hit with "The Wayward Wind". She is now 84 and still performs to this day, here is a performance from 2004 singing "The Wayward Wind", she sounds incredible for almost 80!

Yes, I have heard of Gogi Grant--but not heard her sing for ages---I would not have guessed her to be that age.

Yes I've heard of her too John. I take it you meant to say over 80, as she is in her 84th year. She'll be 84 in September.

I think that John may have meant that the "Youtube" clip was recorded in 2004, when she was nearly 80, although she is 84 now.

Gogi Grant was a very attractive lady, and still is judging by her video clip. We have a few of Gogi Grants songs but not on CD, but she was popular in the Fifties and with Two songs in particular "Suddenly there's a valley", and "The Wayward Wind."
Flare Records have a CD out of Gogi's with the "Helen Morgan Story," and another compilation titled "More Than Ever" The voice of Gogi Grant with 25 tracks of her singles from 1952-1957.

I have had a look and placed an order for the 2 cd's you mentioned, Lena and Harry. Very reasonably priced at £7.99 each and free postage. Other great stars from that period include Dinah Shore, Vaughan Monroe and one that I know Robert will approve of, Frances Langford.

There's a nice article on Frances Langford in the book that we've mentioned on the forum by author Richard Grudens. "STARDUST." also Vaughan Monro and Dinah Shore.

I'm laughing at Lena and Harry's spelling of Vaughn Monroe. I have to admit it was hard for me to type that "e". My finger almost didn't want to hit it!

I certainly hope you have Vaughn Monroe and Dinah Shore in your collection, John. His recording of Ghost Riders in the Sky is still the best. His Red Roses For a Blue Lady is only topped by Burt Kaempfert's version. There's also a great song called Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You). I also loved his There I Said It Again. I've heard the story that a young Barbra Streisand applied to be his secretary, because she thought it would be her foray into the music world. I'm not sure whether she got the job.

You really must have The Gypsy and The Blues In The Night by Dinah Shore.

The Wayward Wind was a huge hit in the US. It's still played on the Music of Your Life stations, but it's hard to find those stations anymore.
