Aloha from Maui,

To my way of thinking, Matt Monro was Europe's very best. On the other side of the pond was his equal, JOHN GARY. Both singers equally talented and amazing, without doubt. Sorry both Matt Monro and John Gary passed away so young and so soon; but left the world with their wonderful, unique music. You can learn more about John Gary at www.johngary.com
As with Matt Monro's super website, John Gary's is lovingly continued by his children. Kudos to Michele for taking such good care of her Dad Matt's legacy.

Warmest aloha,

Richard

John was a unique singer, blessed with one of the most beautiful voices of any popular singer. his range, and ability to sing falsetto, and sotto voce, made him unique. that is only my personal opinion, based on the lp's he made for rca victor. Matt was a great ballad singer, albeit not graced with a tremendous set of pipes, but he also had the ability to really swing a song when the opportunity presented itself.
What i wondered is whether John ever recorded/sang any swinging, upbeat arrangements?

Richard from Maui, I concur. John Gary was one of my favorites, capturing my attention when I was very young. I still love to listen.
As for the other question about Matt Monro singing upbeat songs, MY KIND OF GIRL comes to mind.
