Dickie Valentine

Post by hpooch » Fri Jun 09, 2006 4:09 am

One of my favorite singers was Dickie Valentine also from England, but a hit maker before Matt began singing. Dickie sang with the Ted Heath Orchestra in the early 50s, but then went solo with great songs like "All the Time and Everywhere", "The Finger of Suspicion", "A Blossom Fell",
and "Mister Sandman". His voice was more in the style of Jerry Vale than Sinatra, but like Matt Monro he left us much too early. One of my favorite albums by Dickie was "Vocal Refrain by...." which showed his versatility with old-time favorites. Any of you Brits remember him??

:D Of course,I last saw Dickie at a charity event near my home in Yorkshire-I think shortly before he was tragically killed in a car crash.
Dickie had developed into a superb cabaret performer,singing/telling anecdotal stories and jokes as well as singing. At the same event was Winifred Atwell-of course I was only FIVE!

Hi--yes I'm sure many of us here remember Dickie Valetine---I loved his version of "Walking My baby back home" and a less well known song called "No such Luck"---and they are both on my IPOd, I listen to them regularly.

Hi Henry, we did discuss Dickie Valentine on the forum a couple of weeks ago, it was on the heading "Songs I Wish I Could Hear Sung By Matt" :? :? :? See how we get carried away.
But yes he was one of the best crooners to come out of the uk.
