Looking at the other threads regarding favourite artistes, I am suprised no-one else has mentioned Neil Diamond, Charles Aznavour, Edward Woodward, Gene Pitney, Long John Baldry, Kay Starr etc etc
I am new to this site. I am 39 years old and wish I had been born 20 years earlier! if you were to see my collection of vinyl and CD's you would think I was! My father was a musician and ran his own dance band in Kent for 40 years. My earliest memories are of sitting listening to him play the piano - all the standards and classics!

Hi Emma---lots of big name stars have been mentioned on these pages, but there are still loads to go---every so often a different name crops up--there are more people joining this site, and they all have their own favourites, after Matt. Gene Pitney of course was mentioned quite a lot after his untimely death just recently, but I do not think any of the others have.
Marian
PS--I live in Kent--but it is a very large county!

Hi Emma, nice to welcome you, and as Marian has said there are so many that we could discuss, but those that you have mentioned are all singers that we like to listen to and are part of our collection. Some are easier to say than others too, like Edward Woodward

but we'll get round to them.

Mariann, I am originally from Rochester, but now live in London - it's a lot less to travel! I work in the theatre in sales, so often finish late. Couldn't face the trip back to Kent everyday now. I have lived in London for 15 years.
Only had the fortune to see Matt once, in 1984 - What a concert!

Hi Emma, well I am from Paddock Wood--the other side of Kent to Rochester--I admit the journey to Lodon could be a real problem--I did it for about 20 years, till I left work---had some reall horror journeys, as I'm sure you did. Really glad I do not have to do it now---getting into a packed train, hot as a sauna in this weather, after a days work was at times unbearable.
Lucky you getting to see Matt in concert--many of us on this forum have not had that privilege.

Hi Emma. Welcome from me too!

You mention some good singers there. Gene Pitney and Neil Diamond have definitely been mentioned here previously though - especially by me

Along with Matt, Gene was my other life long idol. I am so sad really that he died so unexpectedly as he did but at least I had the privilige (for the one and only time) of seeing him live in concert a week before he died. An outstanding performance which I shall always remember. Great singer, genuinely lovely guy.
I also saw Neil Diamond live in concert last June and again, an outstanding performance, he really was superb. Again, the only time I've seen him. I must say, I am so envious that you got to see Matt live in concert as I never did. I would have loved that!
You have a great set of first memeories there Emma, must have been great to have your Dad's career going on around you as you grew up. Great stuff!
Anyway, good to see you joined us - welcome once again!
best wishes,
Lee H
