I've been listening to Mark Porter's album "This is the Moment," and it's great! Mark has a rich depth and tone to his voice, and the album has a nice varied selection of songs sung really well. :D
It's available from his website - www.mark-porter.net/index.htm

Enjoy the concert Lena, Harry, Marian, and Peter. :) (Since there's only a 4 hour time difference between us for this week only, perhaps you haven't left for the Beck yet.)

Please provide a detailed review and a set list (as best as you can remember).

Marian from Kent: Did you order his album from his website?

Well Marian has given you an idea of how we all enjoyed this evening. We had the most fantastic night of entertainment that we can remember for a long time.
It was great to meet up with Marian and Peter Again, and little did any of us know, while supping our coffee what a magnificent show we were in for.
Three guys, MARK PORTER-- TONY BENEDICT-- and PAUL PASHLEY, with this wonderful band of musicians performed songs from that unbelievable and unforgettable era of the Rat Pack,
The first few bars of the medley of songs from the musicians was just the first indication of the brilliance that we were going to experience, but so highlighted by the three guys who sang every song with such professionalism.
What great voices and talent each of them have.
We have been brought up on this kind of music and vocalists of this kind and we have seen many shows of this kind, but this was the best ever.
Apart from the songs, Marion, Peter, Harry and myself were overjoyed when our lovely friend Mark Porter announced that some of his friends from the Matt Monro fan club were there in the audience and he had a rousing cheer and a wave from us all, and to have the pleasure of meeting all three stars after the show for signing our CDs and having pictures taken with all the three stars of the night made it a most memeorable evening.
More to come we are sure from Marian and us so WATCH THIS SPACE.

The Kings of Swing

Post by Marian » Tue Oct 30, 2007 11:11 am

They are called "The Kings of Swing", and swing they certainly did"!
As Lena and Harry have already said, this was a thoroughly enjoyable show from start to finish. Great singers, all three with great voices, great songs, very well sung. The highest standard maintained right the way through, each song suited so well to the indivdual singer singing it.
The 9 piece band were great too, and presented several orchestral numbers from the Rat Pack era to add to the evening.
A background of humour throughout, was kept at just the right level to compliment and never distract from the vocalists.
Our man Mark, as well as being a wonderful singer, coming across with a great sense of humour.
All three were great too after the show, posing for photos and happily signing our "Kings of Swing" CDs.
These are the songs Peter and I can recall Paul. Lena and Harry might be able to add a few more.
In no particular order..

Days of Wine and Roses.
Saturday Night is the Loneliest Night of the Week.
Artificial Flowers.
My Way.
New York, New York.
Luck Be a Lady.
The Lady is a Tramp.
Let There Be Love.
Fly Me To The Moon.
Pennies From Heaven.
Volare.
That's Amore.
Sway.
Mack The Knife.
Fly Me To The Moon.
All The Way.
Mr Bojangles.
I Left My Heart in San Francisco.
Let's Face the Music and Dance.
Moondance.
Gentle On my Mind.
Up a Lazy River.
My Kind of Town.
Chicago.
The Way You Look Tonight.
In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning.
Little Old Wine Drinker Me.
A Kick In The Head.
I've Got You Under My Skin.
That's Life.

All four of us said, there aren't many shows you could sit through again, but this is certainly one of them.
Marian and Peter :D :D :D :D

We also couldn't think of the set programmes of songs in this smooth show where each song and the singers blended so easily and professionally. It simply flowed .....
We were so mesmerised by this talent that we are glad that Marian remembered so many of the songs.
They each even impersonated singers with the individual artist's known songs such as Dean Martin, Elvis Presley. Shirley Bassey, Nat King Cole, and with the best impersonations that we've ever heard, and not forgetting Harry's favourite Bobby Darin number sung by Tony "Artificial Flowers".
We shall be watching and waiting for this show's next detailed schedule and others that are similar with this kind of music that these STARS appear in.
The CDs are excellent... MARK PORTER CD..."THIS IS THE MOMENT" this is a must..has 15 tracks and all sung superbly by Mark.
Marian has already posted Mark's web-site, and here's a reminder.
