Happy 80th Birthday Tony Bennett.

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Thu Aug 03, 2006 11:49 am

Today the 3rd of August is Legendary singer Tony Bennett's 80th Birthday. :)
Today Tony is still performing and thrilling audiences all over the world and after a career spanning for over Sixty years, thankfully there's no sign of him slowing down.
His songs are legendary, from one of his first recordings "Because Of You" through to "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" so many beautiful songs too numerous to mention, but to see Tony Bennett in concert is just a fantastic and unforgettable experience. He sings with tenderness, sophistication and emotion that just melts your heart.
We can't wait to hear his duets album due out next month with 18 of his old and favourite cuts with some of the best vocalists.
So .... Happy Happy 80th Birthday Tony. :)

Hi Lena, Harry and Marian,

There is a speical show on Radio 2 this coming Friday night @7pm.
I think it is on this week and next week.
It's a sort of tribute to Tony with contributions from him and others too.
Should be worth a listen I think. :( :D

Hi all. A very happy 80th birthday to Tony Bennett, and doesn't he still look well and ageless. He's definitely ageing better than those two pesky Londoners are

Hi Hilary thanks for that info on Tony Bennett, we didn't know about that programme, so we will certainly listen in.
Oh and Robert , yes Tony might be wearing better than us, but we've decided not to succumb to nip and tuck and all that misery.
We'll tell you why. We've heard one or two stories recently like one lady who had upper and lower eye bag removal. Not very successful. One eye was rounded at the outer corner, the other eye more closed than the other one, and it also resulted in both eyes left slightly watering. In fact she was crying a river. Another lady had a smilar cosmetic problem, had the surgery and was also left with a large lump under her eye. On her return to the surgeon she told him she was getting married in five days time and wanted to look good. She pleaded with him and said, please tell me that this will go!! and when he told her it could take up to three months to vanish, it only took her five seconds to realise at that point that she wasn't going to look good, and then a hefty whack that any heavyweight would have been proud of from the unhappy lady, left the surgeon with a lump under his eye. Every word is true.
And the moral of this story is, mix a bit of Fullers Earth with water, apply to the face and neck and place a slice of cucumber on each eye. works a treat.

Hi Lena, Harry, Marian and Robert,

According to my mum, Nivea is the magic cream to use!
Much cheaper than surgery and available without prescription.

Changing the subject a little, did you hear on the news yesterday the story about the guard dog that destroyed Elvis's teddy bear!
Apparently he was looking after the £40,000 bear and decided that he didn't like the look of him and bit off his head! :?

What about that story the other week when a snake swallowed a whole electric blanket plus the control panel and plug.
It makes you think that it is not just people that are going mad!

Hi Hilary---yes I did read the story about the dog eating the head of the Elvis Teddy Bear --made by Steiff. It reminded me of my puppy Chloe :!: :!: :!: .

I wonder if that bear prompted the famous "Teddy Bear" song that Elvis sang---going back a few years there.

Hi---forgot to say a very "Happy Birthday" to Tony Bennett. He is certainly wearing well, and the new duets album sounds a goodie! My favourite song by Tony Bennett is "I could write a book"

Hi Hilary, Yes Nivea cream is another cheaper alternative. When those face masks were first introduced the advice on the sachet read, Do not allow to crack during drying process, so you quietly hid away in another room away from everybody, looking like a corpse.
The Gaurd dog that bit the head off of Elvis's £40,000 Teddy Bear was on the TV news this morning, and a snake eating an electic blanket, now in both cases that's really getting stuffed. Boom Boom
Now where were we, oh yeah.
One of our real favourites of Tony Bennett's is How do you keep the music playing. :)

Hello all. The dog that bit the head off Elvis' Teddy Bear went even wilder, as he was guarding a whole room full of Teddy Bears and attacked nearly all of them.

When you have finished with the cucumber Lena and Harry, do you make good use of them and put them in your salad sandwiches :) :)

And to all you ladies---I Love the "Nivea soft"---as good as any more expensive cream around.

Hi Mark--thanks for the links--I went straight to Play.com and ordered the Duets at a brilliant price, and as a bonus I spotted "Tony Bennett sings Rodgers and Hart" which is one of my fave Tony cd's---but this new one has got several bonus tracks on it---eg-another version of "I could write a book"---how could I resist it ?

Tony will be pleased. You won't be disappointed with the Duets album.UK release is October 3/4th-USA Sept.26th.
The R&H set has only alternate takes as 'bonus tracks'-slight variations to the previously released ones(also there).
If you want the whole IMPROV recordings they are advertised on http://hmv.co.uk as'THE COMPLETE IMPROV RECORDINGS on CONCORD label.
