Barbra Streisand

Post by Terence Lee » Wed Oct 11, 2006 2:55 am

Barbra lost her cool and used the 4 letter word onstage at Madison Square Garden in New York after her George Bush skit was badly received. The lady still has fire at 64!

She is singing many songs from the early part of her career including her signature hits from Funny Girl.
A highlight of this concert is "Have I Stayed Too Long At The Fair?". According to my friend who attended the concert, Babs is in excellent voice, much better than in her recent CDs.

Hi Terence---a little of this concert was shown on Breakfast time Tv yesterday---she was looking good and sounding good---although why they said she had not done a live concert for 12 years is beyond me--as I have a dvd of her Millennium concert--6 years ago!!

It is said that this is her farewell tour--lets hope she is like Sinatra and keeps on doing "Farewell tours"--she is a truly great artiste.!!

Hi Marian

I like her too but her last few albums have been quite bland except for Guilty Pleasures. If she sings in London, will you go Marian?

Barbra is one of Tony Bennett's duet partners on SMILE-a track from TONY BENNETT:DUETS-An American Classic album :D

Hi Terence--would love to go--but whether circumstances allow, is another question.

Is the stage the place for this sort of campaign? I am not comfortable with this, I am no fan of George Bush but I can imagine people not being happy about this. I recently saw Madonna perform live here in the Netherlands at she also had a 10 minute rant at Bush and the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism, it all left me wondering am I at a concert or a rally for the Democrates? I do think music is a way of bringing across a message but there is a thin line befor it gets to much..

People will be feeling very patriotic now in the US, after the nuclear test in North Korea. So people will want to put their support behind their leader in these worrying times.

Hi Robert-I had actually recorded GMTV for my sister as Westlife were on---and I had no idea that Barbra Streisand would appear. Unfortunately the recording stopped before the end of the show, so no idea if she used that 4 letter word on TV---but my guess is--that no, they did not broadcast it. 8)

Thanks for this report Terrence. I hadn't heard any of this. And you stated exactly what I am feeling Dean. Thank you.

I have already lost all respect for Madonna. I know one of her dancers who has performed with her for many years. After this last tour, she doesn't even want to hear the name Madonna again. She said often she sang off-pitch and was even more nasty than usual. Madonna is finished with her music career and she can't face that fact. She will attempt to keep reinventing herself, but this can only work for 20 years. It's time for her to give it up.

As for Barbra Streisand, I've liked many of her recordings, but she needs to just sing and stay out of politics. Her career is also over. No one cares about her anymore.

It will be a very long time before I listen again to my Streisand and Madonna records.

Hi Marian

Since your sister is such a big fan of Westlife, do ask her if she likes their recording of No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) with disco diva Donna Summer.

It is found on the CD "Discomania" only.

I somehow can't imagine them singing Barbra's part.

I agree on Madonna and her 'live voice' - I am not a huge fan but had the chance to see the show, and it is a show, not a concert. She definately does not sing everything live and her voice live is a poor imatation of the voice that is created in the studio.
I don't think that this would make me listen to the music an artist has recorded, I have never liked the personality Mariah Carey but do still listen to some of her early albums (Before she went Urban and Hip Hop)
I have found Barbra over the top with her opinions in recent years and her music was also in a dip until the last CD, which made me want to listen to her again, but I would never stop wanting to listen to the 1960's Barbra.

Hi Terence--My sister has never mentioned that track with Westlife and Donna Summer--I find it hard to imagine---but then I heard on Breakfast Tv that they included "Dontcha" in their recent tour., which I also find hard to imagine. I will ask Jill about "No more Tears"

Plus I think Barbra Streisand is fabulous-whatever!!!

Has anyone heard Barbra duetting with Tony Bennett on his CD "Duets"? Both of them sound so sublime singing SMILE.
