Gigliola Cinquetti

Post by ROBERT M. » Sun Nov 05, 2006 3:24 am

You might think I'm being a bit of a turn coat here, but I love Gigliola Cinquetti, who beat our Matt to victory in the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark with the beautiful ballad "Non no l'eta" just such a glorious song. I'd rather forgotten about the beautiful Gigliola Cinquetti until I went on Youtube and there are a number of videos on there showing the lovely Italian singing talents of the beautiful Gigliola. She sounds so romantic and enthralling singing in that language. On a couple of songs she sings in French and German, but I do not think those languages sound half as good as her Italian musical tones do. Gigliola is a stunner. There is one clip from 1989 (25 years after her Eurovision victory) singing "Non no l'eta" but to me she still looks so very beautiful. Please check her out on Youtube.

Hi Robert, of course we don't think of you as a turncoat, but we remember when Gigliola Cinquetti in 1964 took first place over Matt, and while we agree that she has a good voice, and is indeed very beautiful, we were unimpressed with her song on this occasion.
She is extremely talented, and for us out of the video clips on YOUTUBE perhaps Gira L'amore has the most appeal. :) :)

Thanks for your reply L&H, but I cannot agree with you on "Non no l'eta" as I think the song is "beautiful" (sorry)

Yes L&H, I checked Youtube again tonight, and another Gigliola Cinquetti video has been added, a song called "Sera" but it sounds as though the song has been added from a CD or album over the film clip. It doesn't sound like a "live" performance, also the "lip sync" doesn't look right to me either

Yes Robert, and this sound over an original recording we assume is what they call popularized multiplex.

Two more Gilgliola Cinquetti videos have been added to Youtube. The first one is from the Eurovision Song Contest of 1974 in which Gigliola represented Italy for a second time. It was held in the UK (Brighton) Gigliola sings "Si" a lovely ballad, but of course Abba won that year with "Waterloo". Hard to believe that was 32 years ago :!:

The second video is Gigliola singing her version of Mary Hopkins big hit "Quelli erano i giorni" or otherwise known as "Those Were The Days". A song I think written for Mary, by Paul McCartney 8)

 Just to let anyone know, that you don't have to be a member of Youtube. Just type in Youtube, then search for the artist you want to view, its easy. I bet there will be Johnny Mathis and Jack Jones videos on there. (Just checked and yes there are, especially JM videos).

Hi Robert - missed this thread the 1st time around! How did I miss a Eurovision reference. Anyway, after Roberts 'nudge' on another thread here I am!

'Non Ho L'eta' is not a song I am too familiar with to be honest! But have listened to it on YouTube and it is a lovely ballad. I was surpised to see that Gigliola Cinquetti didn't go on to enjoy more success, as she sings it beautifully. Interesting that Italy pulled out of Eurovision in 1994 but their are rumours that they may return in the future.

YouTube is great. There are some wonderful films of many of my favourite singers, including Matt, Johnny M, and The Seekers! Oh and have I mentioned Eydie Gorme

"When a child is born"---what else??

He completely missed out with "Too Much etc etc"--not to mention "Chances Are" "A certain Smile" etc etc etc.
