JOE LONGTHORNE

Post by Sandra » Thu Jun 10, 2010 9:39 am

We went to see Joe Longthorne last night at our local theatre last night,Joes 7th show of a huge 50 date tour.
If he is in your area you HAVE TO GO.
Ignore the first half an hour.We had a corny comedian who did actually have us laughing and Chris Berry who wrote Joes autobiography and spent a fair bit of time plugging the book before singing a couple of songs.
The audience were grumbling as the curtain went down after half an hour.
How that grumbling turned to cheers when Joe Longthorne appeared straight into the second half.
What a VOICE.What a STAR.He had us eating out of the palm of his hand.Another underated performer he deserves the status SUPERSTAR.
We were even more endeared towards him when he did a lovely tribute to our Matt.He said he will never forget appearing with him one New Years Eve on TV
with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra( probably December 31st 1982 on Pebble Mill if you look in the Special Reserve)he pointed up to the sky and said Matt was sadly missed and would be 'up there' still singing to us.
He is such an entertainer doing fantastic impressions of Tony Bennett,Frank Sinatra,Shirley Bassey,Dorothy Squires,Tom Jones,Elvis etc etc etc.
He finished with 'If I Never Sing Another Song' to rousing cheers.
Have to mention his super backing group too.2 guitars, drums, keyboard and an AMAZING piano player.
He had standing ovations and shouts of more but to no avail. He obviously has a core of fans who follow him everywhere they can.We were allowed to use our cameras(my pics have heads in them!) too without being told not to.
We had never seen him 'live' before but will be first in the queue if he is in our area again.MARVELLOUS- do not miss him!!

Thanks Sandra, what a brilliant night you had and what a superb review. It prompted us to look up and see if Joe was going to perform in our area and got very excited when we saw he was at a concert hall just a few miles up the road from us. However when the senior moment had passed - we realised it was the day we are going on a cruise. Sorry but Joe lost out this time!

We like reading concert reviews even if we don't get to see the artist so keep up the good work.

Maureen & Harry :) :)

So pleased to hear that you enjoyed Joe Longthornes concert Sandra and John.
He's not only a great singer and entertainer, but so incredibly courageous. :)

Enjoy your cruise Maureen and Harry. Many singers and comedians began their careers from working on cruises, so have a good time. :) :)
