DON CORNELL

I realize that I posted on this great singer a year ago, but I just replayed many of his vocals when he was singing with Sammy Kaye in 1949 on the Chrysler Showroom Programs which I mailed a CD copy to Lena & Harry Smith. When I traveled with Don & his wife on their Caribbean Cruise ten years ago Don told me that he idolized the singing of Russ Columbo and patterned his style of crooning by listening to him as his early Sammy Kaye vocals in 1941-1942 will attest to. But his singing really matured after he was discharged from the Army and his greatest regret was that he did not leave Sammy in 1946 and become a solo act like Perry Como & dick Haymes. If you have these programs from 1949 listen to these songs like:
PRISONER OF LOVE - from the Chrysler Show-late 1949 - This version was better than Matt, Perry or Russ....But it was never released on a CD!!
I CAN DREAM CAN'T I, AGAIN, THIS NEARLY WAS MINE, & FOR YOU - All performed by Don on Sammy Kaye's Chrysler Show but never recorded.
You can hear Don's tribute to Russ Columbo's theme song--"YOU CALL IT MADNESS" on Don Cornell's CD - "I'll Be Seeing You" (Iris Records#37134)
