Marian - You were the first person I thought of when I heard that The Beautiful South was splitting. I don't know many of their songs, but I liked the few I heard, especially Rotterdam. I'm sure Radio 2 will continue to play their songs for many years.

I liked the "musical similarities" in their statement released to the press:

The Beautiful South have split up after 19 years together.

Formed in the 1980s by Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway the band released 13 albums during their time together, three of which topped the UK albums chart.

In a statement, the band says, "The Beautiful South have split up due to musical similarities. The band would like to thank everyone for their 19 wonderful years in music."

The band statement was made by Paul Heaton the lead singer, who has a "way" with words :!: a really good band to listen to, with catchy songs, not too rocky and not too soft, just about right 8)

Rotterdam was a favourite of mine, also another brilliant one was Don't Marry Her. I think there were 2 versions of this song and if I remember correctly one version was rather rude (of course, I didn't listen to this particular version, not sweet little innocent me!!!!)

The "rude" version of "Don't marry her" was on the cd---the more polite version was issued as a cd single.
