News on Johnny Mathis!

I'm sure Mariana already knows this, but yesterday in ASDA I purchased the new Johnny Mathis dvd, celebrating his 50 years in the Business! A brilliant show from a Hotel in Atlanta, and needless to say we watched it last evening. His voice is as good as ever and the ASDA price is less than £9! As it was only recorded from the September 2006 Show, it's as up to date as that! I love his easy going style, particularly on stage! He had 2000 in the audience, and they were eating out of his hand! Mariana stop swooning!

Hi Bill-yes I had preordered this from Amazon--some time ago. A friend of mine sent me the PBS show from Atlanta, which is slightly diffferent, but it is so good to have, as it brings back the memories of the 3 concerts that I saw in September. Also it is the most current show that we have had for ages--apart from little bits from USA. I think you will agree Bill, that he is still looking and sounding good at 71. Somewhere on this forum is a link to the photos I took in Manchester and Birmingham.

Haven't bought the DVD yet - other forumites know that I'm also a Mathis fan - but it sounds like I'll be getting down to my local ASDA to pick up a bargain soon.

This DVD of Johnny Mathis 50th Anniversary Celebration is featured in the DVD corner of the "In Tune" magazine, and questions as to why it is on sale at Asda but there has been no sign of it in HMV, Virgin etc. this sounds fantastic from the review.
So well done Asda and come on you other stores.

I can confirm that this dvd is VERY hard to get hold of--I bought mine via Amazon, last year, but since then I have heard from many of my friends who just cannot get hold of it. I have had 2 more on order from Amazon, since January, and they have just put delivery back till the end of June !!
I have also an order in WH Smith--they said delivery in 2 days-I have been waiting a month---nothing on Asda Website. In the end my friend in Wales went to her nearest Asda, and bought it there--but they sell out fast. I had heard it was no 21 in the top selling dvds. but don't ask me how !!!!!

If you see it, it is definately worth buying--just like being at one of the concerts last year.

I think basically his promotion team are not doing their job--even the last 2 cds were nearly impossible to get hold of--especially without a computer and access to the Internet.

The article states exactly that Marian, it seems that this great artist like many others with similar talent haven't got the backing that they deserve, no enterprise, just poor management.

Yes, Marian, I have to agree. They even mentioned it on the JJ forum, as they were talking about a "new" cd---that was 10 years old !!!!

Ans as for trying to buy a dvd or video of Jack---forget it !!!!

I have seen the DVD referred to in HMV. Interesting, the point about lax marketing as I've noticed yet another copy of JM's original album released with a new front cover in HMV( a colour picture of JM in his younger days). This seems to be the third different release of the same album so far this year and I was wondering whether this has something to do with the expiry of 50-year copyright in the recording which allows other record companies to release it. If so, this could be good news for the release of his other rare albums, but it will take some considerable time for them to be released of course.

Yes I knew about the rerelease of that 1st album of JM--I had not connected it with that 50 year rule, but you are probably right.

Unfortunately, not one of the best albums to get any new JM fans---although I have heard that he is recording another album.

Hi Everyone,

I have seen the new Johnny Mathis 50th Anniversary DVD, on sale in HMV Oxford! They also have a couple of other ones as well.

I know from past experience that here in Oxford, we do have a good selection of easy listening music. HMV Oxford is quite small but beautifully formed and certainly well stocked with the latest CD's and DVD's by all our favourite artists! :D

That 50th Anniversary DVD of Johnny Mathis certainly captured the imagination! Good old ASDA! I purchased his 25th Anniversay Concert last year and that's worth space on your DVD shelf too! Incidentally if you visit www.scottjordan.co.uk (then click 'Live Music' and then 'Tributes - Rat Pack') you'll see little old me! My problem, compared to the 'stars' is the equipment from this small theatre was theirs and NOT MINE! But it gives you an idea of my mature 'Dino' style!

Hi Hilary-I think that must be the first HMV store that I have heard of to stock that dvd--In Tunbridge Wells HMV they have very few easy listening dvds.
