Hi Everyone,

Andy will be the special guest of David Allen on his radio show this coming Saturday.

David's show starts at 9pm and Andy should be on at around 10.30pm.
The show goes out on BBC Radio Oxford/Berkshire/Southampton and Southern Counties or of course you can use the listen again feature as David's show will remain on line for a whole week!

I wonder how many people will go to watch the "ageing" and now not so tuneful Mr Williams

you would think someone would have told him it's retirement time, or am I being to harsh on him

Hi Robert and everyone,

The last time I heard Andy on the radio was when he appeared on the David Allen radio show. David asked him if retirement was on the cards and Andy said that he would only retire if Tony Bennett did!

As Tony is still going strong at almost 81 I don't think Andy will be going just yet!

I think that A LOT of performers just can't retire as they love performing on stage SO much. I guess they don't do this for the money but for the love of it.

As much as they love their family and friends they would probably miss the buzz that performing on stage gives them.
Maybe this is why they live so long. Sadly some artists who do have to quit the music industry for whatever reason, don't always live that long afterwards. I suppose it's like a drug - you know you should quit but can't as there is nothing to fill the gap after you have given up!

I'm sure that all of Andy's fans will go along to see him during his tour.
Let's hope it is a good tour for Andy and everyone who goes!

It's great if singers carry on what they love doing if they still have the voice but in some cases I think they go on too long. Frank Sinatra should probably have retired long before he did and, big fan though I am, perhaps Johnny Mathis should also now consider hanging up his vocal chords as I do not think his voice is what it once was. I don't believe you should blindly support an artist come what may, and I get a bit annoyed when I hear the expression "now singing better than ever", when an artist clearly isn't. Having said that, Tony Bennett (now 80?), of whom I am not a particular fan, does still sound quite good. But there is a natural limit to how long the voice can be stretched.

I know I am biased, but I think Johnny Mathis still sounds good---very good in fact--and definately as good as Tony Bennett.

Maybe not the same as he used to be--just different---a much more mature voice--but he is 71--and he has said himself that he will just go on and on--as long as people want to listen to him--and there ARE still many who want to listen to him.

Of course many people still want to hear Johnny and, while his technical voice may now be compromised, his communicative powers remain undiminshed, and that is an important - some would say the main - part of an artist's appeal.

Marian, I perhaps like his original "jazz" album more than you do yourself, and I don't think it's all that different to his other albums. "Cabin in the Sky", for example, is a masterclass in breath control.
