Thanks for that info on Val Doonican Mark.
Funnily enough we've just sent some of Val's music to some friends in America and they hadn't heard of Val. They think he's fantastic. So do we.

It is hard to believe that he is 80--just as it is to think that Vera Lynn is 90 !!!

Always used to watch the Val Doonican Show, and really enjoyed it. It's hard to believe he'll be 80 very soon. Always a real gentleman of song.
Nothing to do with Val Doonican, but I happened to see a duet between Marty and Kim Wilde on GMTV this morning, which was very pleasant.

I presume they have made a father/daughter album together. They sang "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word".
Also caught James Taylor on "Breakfast". His voice has hardly changed at all from his early years. He sang "Fire and Rain". Great!

Wow - earliest musical memories I think of Dad playing Val Doonican on Sunday mornings after replacing a valve in the record player he had made himself! Loved a lot of this quirky songs as well as his more serious stuff - 'Walk Tall' is still a fave, as well as O'Raffertys motor car!

Val was guest on Eric Halls programme a few weeks ago, and said that he still has the Rocking chair that he always used in his act on stage all those years ago.
He always wore very smart patterened jumpers and cardigans and his easy going style was similar to that of Perry Como.
He also said that he now spends a lot of time in Spain where he has a second home.
