I just saw this news on my Teletext today, which may be old news, as I do not often see a paper.

Apparently Barbra is doing 5 Europe concerts--one in London, at the old Millennium Dome in July--tickets ranging from £100.00, up to a massive £500.00.

Much as I would love to see her, I could never justify that sort of money--so I shall either wait until I win the lottery   or hope that they do a dvd of the concert !!!!

I just saw on Teletext that all tickets were sold within 20 minutes--and they are putting on an extra show.

Already the tickets are on ebay at hugely inflated prices. A quick way of doubling your money--if you could get hold of some tickets to start with!!

It obviously depends on the performer and how much you are prepared to fork out. So how much would that be.? My friend and I paid £100 each to see Frank Sinatra at the Royal Albert Hall in 1984, but that included a Three course meal, as much drink as you wanted and snacks laid out in the interval, plus a brochure. So we were happy with that.
To even think of paying £500 for a ticket, we would probably volunteer to be certified.

anyone going?

No one's going to see La Streisand?
A legend like her comes along once in a lifetime, one of her fans in Cambridge advised me today.

If there was a way of me seeing her, I would--but I just cannot justify that sort of money---plus you need to add travel-possibly an overnight stay, meal out etc...

Hi Marian

She may never pass this way again and this may be your only opportunity to see her. If you like her enough, the exhorbitant cost of the ticket plus overnight stay, etc will not be considered I think.

I know that what you are saying is right, and if I was still working--then , yes, I would--but my financial position is very different now, and I cannot do it.

There was an article in todays Times that several acts, including Sir Elton John as well as Barbra Streisand have cancelled shows across Europe. The reasons have usually been put down to techinical diffculties, but its no coincidence that the shows effected are not exactly sold out. The report speculated that musicians make so little money out of record sales nowadays, with low prices and downloads hitting income hard; that they are now having to use the concerts as their main form of income. Had never thought of that before!

Hi Mike,

I suppose that we the music fans have never had it so good! :D
A few years ago a chart CD would set you back £13.99!
All of the major supermarkets now sell these for about £9.97 and as you rightly say, downloads are very cheap as well. We are now the ones who are in the money!

Yes, it is a shame that today's artists don't make the same amount of money as the artists from years ago did but I guess this could be due to the fact that some of the major record labels/artists management companies and record stores, over pricing everything and we of course went out and bought the music we wanted and didn't really think about how much money we were handing over for the latest CD etc.

I don't mind at all if artists make loads of money or very little as most of us are probably only interested in the music.

I remember reading an article a couple of years ago about an artist that we have talked about here in the forum.
He said that when the BIG money came along [1970's!] he went mad and bought loads of flash cars and homes here, there and everywhere because he went from having no money at all to having.....too much!

Today's artists will have to be VERY careful with their cash I think!
Maybe they should open a savers account and pay everything into that just like we all do!  :D
