Vic Damone will be celebrating his 79th Birthday this coming Tuesday the 12th of June.
One of the finest American Italian crooners from that special era of famous crooners. Dewi Griffiths paid a tribute to Vic on his show this morning.

Just how wonderful is Vic Damone's recording of On The Street Where You Live?!

I pulled out a German compilation of all the great singers (including Matt Monro). I don't listen to it often so I don't know what song comes next. So it was exciting to hear On The Street Where You Live. I then played it about 8 times over the weekend. A definiite 10 out of 10 rating!

We agree,Vic Damones is certainly the superior version followed closely though by Nat King Cole.

In the big band mood we have been listening to more of Artie Shaw than 'Begin The Beguine'
and have been playing over and over his fabulous clarinet playing on 'Dancing In The Dark' :D

Robert who did you say likes Al Martino? I am listening to him now, some tracks I like better than others but his version of Matt's Born Free is nowhere near as good.

Radio York recently played Vic's recording of 'Something's Coming' from West Side Story - absolutely stunning, wow, what a voice.

Vic Damone is one of the Greats of the Italian Americans singers Gray who have made a fabulous contribution to the music world.
A friend of ours who makes up shows for GMMY web-site and puts on great music has been a very good friend of Vics for many years, has spent holidays at his home and went to see him in his One night concert in January, and singing as good as ever. :)

Gosh, Lena, how wonderful.
I knew Vic Damone's version of 'On the Street...', but clearly I need to learn more of him.
'Something's Coming' really was special to me.

Thanks for posting.

I saw Vic in concert with Lena Horne many years ago in America and spoke to to Vic afterwards, the show was wonderful.
