Back in the 80's I visited friend in Cape Town who had two cats (The same family I met up with in Dubai in 2011).

I was alone in the house for awhile one day and it was the cat's tea-time and they were pacing about and looking at me saying "Feed Me, Feed Me NOW" I could not find the cat food so opened a can of tuna and they would have nothng to do with it, I later found out they didn't like Tuna. I said well they couldn't have been THAT hungry or they would have eaten it!

Actually Karl, that is not quite true--if a cat does not like something, it will just not eat it, hungry though it may be. Over the years we had a dozen cats and they can be very obstinate.

When I was at home, our cat was fed on scraps and meat from the local cats meat man who came round selling it a couple of times a week, and then Kit-E- Kat arrived in the shops and I remember putting it down for her for the first time and she just sniffed at it and walked away.
She was fussy considering it was the post war era. :?

I still maintain if they were REALLY hungry they would eat it, a poor littl c at in the wild would I bet?

The cat my US friend now has he brought in from the cold before she went feral, she has a damaged paw but the vet advised againt an operation as she was used to it, it took her three months to get used to having an owner but she's fine now and was very clean from the start. He wodnerd where she kept diusappearing to after she ate and finally found out there is a small gap between the dishwasher and the sink unit and she was hiding in there.

I met her for the first time last September and she was funny, she came around from her snoozing chair and looked at me, she then put her paws on a small table to get a better look and you could see the puzzled look on her face saying "Who Are You". I left her to come around by herself and that night she came up on my bed, I opened one eye and she was inches from my face - the next day we were the best of friends. :)

Cats are different to dogs in that they will hunt for food--birds , mice etc. Dogs generally tend to rely on being fed by their owners.
