Is anyone still keeping their collection of laserdiscs?
I sold off my Elvis collection last week since I already have them all on DVDs.

Yes, I still have my collection of Laserdiscs, Amanda would love me to ditch them, but i can't!
It took too long and cost too much to put the collection together.
They hardly ever get played, (though we did watch The Greatest Story Ever Told at Easter), but they just have too much sentimental value.

I started selling some on E-Bay about three years ago, and then stopped after four were sold, I couldn't bear wrapping them up!

I know that dvd is potentially better quality, but it's the vinyl versus cd debate all over again.
The Greatest Story Ever Told LD is an NTSC disc, so in theory on my PAL telly it should look poor. But do you know what, Terence, it wasn't half bad and I got all nostalgic for LD all over again!

Are you going to part with your collection...?

I'm afraid to say Laser Discs completely passed me by. I even had to look them up on Wikipedia to find out all about them.
You sound to be very attached to your collection Gray. What kind of packaging did they have?

We were nerver in to Laser disks, Gray, but we understand your feelings of ever parting with them. It's like our attachment for vinyl, we know imost of it should go, but....

Laserdiscs looked just like big silver LP's.
If you got a gatefold Laserdisc it was something to behold.
I would pour over the info and pictures on the sleeve for hours

After selling 7 laserdiscs, I decided to stop. I can't bear to part with the rest of them especially the boxset of New York New York which has 4 discs.
The thing is ; I am afraid of laser rot which afflicts older discs. Have you ever had discs that play badly with many specks in the picture or distortion in the sound? The tropical weather here may not be suitable for their storage but they have lasted 15 years!

So far, all of my discs have survived too - but I do hear what you're saying - it is a worry!
Wow - four disc New York New York - sounds magnificent.
I'm afraid if I owned that I just couldn't let it go either!

Is that your most treasured disc?
My Greatest Story Ever Told LD spans four discs too...I'm rather fond of that disc.
I really miss shopping for LD's, it felt wonderful going home carrying a plastic bag that weighed a tonne.
