Only Amanda here - Graham's other half. I think they should put Ant and Dec in the jungle now that would be funny. Think David Gest will win.

Well, we could always make Paul sit through a recording of 'Maria' or 'YMCA', as a trial, or make me sit through Cilla Blacks rendition of 'You're my world' or 'Anyone who had a heart'. What would your idea of a trial be?

I've not been watching this 'IACGMOOH' this year, and proud of it! I did have to sit thru Peter Andre and Katie Clarke (nee Jordan!) on This Morning the other day - they are awful! And thats what happen when people go on to win reality TV!

Paul, why couldn't you see just how "wonderful" Matts version of "Maria" was, before the Fan Club Meet :?:

Mike, Jordans surname is Price not Clarke

The timings on the posts tonight seem to be a little bit wayward, plus I have to "log in" before I send my posts, strange :? :?

I will gladly watch Matt Monro singing "Maria" 1000 times! As Marian says it's mesmerising.

But my feelings on YMCA or Westlife haven't changed, Michael. However, the real torture for me would be making me listen to I Don't Want To Lose A Thing by Aerosmith or Sir Terry Wogan's and Gray's favourite songs Lyin' Eyes and Take It To The Limit by the Eagles. Those three songs are even worse than My Humps!

I think a celebrity Matt Monro Forum boot camp would be interesting. But I'm concerned about the poor wombats that Gray wants to cook! :) They were my favourite animal when I went to Australia. I even have one sitting on my TV!

Robert - the short answer to your question is the perceptive skills of Michele Monro. She and I discussed Maria after her brother's concert. She knew that if I saw her father singing the song, my opinion of the song and her father's recording of the song would change. She was right!

Marian - Yes I will bring a piano to the Matt Monro Forum celebrity boot camp, but I may play All The Things You Are and A House Is Not A Home nonstop the first day!

Hi Paul

It has taken me approx 12 hours to respond to your posting about Lyin' Eyes by The Eagles.
You stunned me into silence! (Not such a bad thing, I hear you cry!) :)
It's a cracking 'drive-along-sing-a-long song'!
The next time you are playing piano in the hotel, you should definately add it to your play-list, all 7 minutes of it!
I can just picture a room full of cowboys crying into their beers (nothing to do with your playing your understand, simply down to the lyrics) :)
At least I know you like Desperado, so there is some hope for you ;)

I do agree with you about the Aerosmith song, though. I know Robert likes it, but it would definately be in my list of the worst songs ever.
One of Amanda's friends is a HUGE Aerosmith fan and she recently went to Vegas to see them in concert. Hope she doesn't read what I just typed!

Hello all,

I think there was a glitch sonewhere last night - the forum wouldn't let me post and now marian tells me I am in a different time zone! Well I am typing this at 2137, although by the time I edit it it will be nearer 22:00

Marian, I've only just found out how to get into the photos (after your explanatory email lol) - not realised that Paul HAD sat through 'Maria' - maybe his next challenge would have to be 'The Rose' by You Know Who!

Gray - Know what you mean about some rock songs being great to drive to, with the music turned up. So much so that I have started a seperate thread! But very disappointed to hear your views on 'Don't wanna close my eyes' - you must have a heart of stone 8) Went to see 'Armageddon' with a mate of mine who is a Prison Governor, and so not prone to a show of emotions. At the end of the film, when Bruce Willis' life flashes before him as he gets nuked saving earth destruction his vest on an asteroid, said mate proclaimed that there must be a fault with the cinema sprinkler system, as there was water on his face. The soppy sod had been crying!

Hi Mike -you are now back in the same time zone as everyone else---although you were definately an hour in front yesterday. I can tell you I was really confused, as I have not changed all my clocks---those on walls, high up etc,,so some of my clocks are an hour fast--like the one in my computer room, although my computer clock is right ! So I did wonder of there was something wrong this end......

I will not sit through I Don't Want To Miss A Thing (I'm pleased you agree with me on this Gray), Lyin Eyes, or Take It To The Limit! Sir Terry Wogan played Lyin' Eyes the morning after Fans Reunited. I was furious ... all the wonderful British music he could be playing and he plays the Eagles. Just dreadful.

Thanks for the reminder on Desperado, Gray. I said that I would add that back to my repertoire and I haven't yet. I feel Linda Ronstadt does the best recording of that song. I certainly hope Westlife hasn't ruined that song as well. I've actually heard The Rose by Westlife several times during Radio 1's chart show, but it's sung with a complete lack of emotion, I don't even know it's playing!

The Best rendition of `The Rose` in my opinion is sung by Michael Ball. another great singer, known of course by his song from Aspects of Love, `Love changes everything`. We went to see Michael Ball once in concert, or maybe I should say tried to see Michael Ball in concert. they sat us behind a huge concrete support, so unfortunately could only see him occasionally, but of course heard him well. truly great singer.

Funnily enough this subject has come up recently on the Teletext message board--and several people have said that Michael Ball's version is loads better than Westlife. I have to agree. When Michael Ball released the single, it was as a kind of charity record , raising money for research into ovarian cancer, as a relative had recently died from that.

I saw Michael Ball once in concert in Manchester--he was just great !

Michael ball is indeed a very charismatic and talented entertainer. Saw him in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' - he is a fantastic stage singer and dancer. Especially good at 'The old bamboo' which he had to dance on stage. dick Van Dyke was his most difficult scene ever in a film. Even acting alongside animated penguins, and mastering Cockney were easier then that
