Mariana, I heard from one of my high school classmates (one that I actually talk to as I didn't get on with my class) about one of our classmates who tragically passed away the day after Christmas. It was pretty disturbing and bummed me out, even if I didn't get along with the person, yet that was then and this is now. I just came back from sending a little money to my friend to help with the burial expenses.

So sorry to hear about your friend Marian. Sadly Illness and death does not go on hold, be it Christmas time or New Year, it just seems so much worse, and the last thing we want to happen.
Thinking of you Marian.

Sorry to hear your news Marian, the same thing happened to one of my Stateside cousins husband some years ago - such a nice guy too.

I brought in the New Year with my neighbours and we played a Jimmy Shand cd I ordered and arrived in time as it included both sides of a 78 we played when I was child "Sing In The New Year", was good to hear it again.

Karl, interesting you brought up 78's. I remember having that speed on one of my old record players along with the 16 speed. Never saw one of those records. The only ones I've seen would be the 33's and 45's. I wonder what kind of records were released for the speed of 16.

Thanks Robert!! Although I wasn't friends with the guy in school and hated his guts, I look at it as a "that was then and this is now" type thing especially with the tragic way he went. It's too disturbing to post, so I won't and it gives me the chills.

Hi Eman-bad news is always bad news-no matter who it is--especially when it is unexpected, as has just happened to us both.

May I wish a Happy New Year to everyone on the forum as well as to Michelle and all the Monro family. Mariana, I'm sorry to learn of your friend's passing but I guess this is part of the cycle of life. 2011 wasn't a great year for me, for various reasons, and I'm not sure 2012 will be much better but, hey, we have to stay positive in this world, don't we? Take care, everyone.
