We thought of you Maxine as soon as Don mentioned the name Maxine and we really enjoyed the song Richard Stilgoe sang. :)
Aaww thank you Maureen and Harry ... It's made me laugh and hubby ...needed it :)
Softly, I will leave you softly
For my heart would break if you should wake and see me go.....

I just caught up with this , and did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I always love Don when hes talking about lyrics and rhymes, but I thought many of the singers were just not suited to the songs, like Michael Ball in "Walk Away", but sounding great in "Love changes everything". And I love the beard !

I guess my favourite bit by far was Richard Stilgoe, I love him, he is so clever and funny. the song about Maxine was great, and as I have my subtitles on at the moment, i could see all the words clearly-brilliant. I liked Maria Friedman, and the group singing the Barcelona song, but as for the others, the singing let them down. The difference between hearing Matt sing "On days like these" and the singer who sang it was very noticeble. I think it would have been better to have Matt singing on a screen. Same as To Sir with Love", why was Frances Ruffelle singing it-she is a musical performer, it did not sound right-why not get Lulu.

We finally got to sit together and watch the show and agree with you all.

Not Michael Balls finest hour on Walk Away. The BBC Big Band were excellent.A deserved tribute to Don Black with some nice stories even all of us 'Monroites' hadn't heard before :) The best singers were Marti Webb and Maria Friedman.Shame about some of the others.

Totally agree with your comments Sandra and John, in fact Gregory Porter, the man with the hat has just appeared on Breakfast Time, and Bill Turnball asked...(as you would.) why he wears that hat. He replied... it's my jazz hat, yes, that is his gimmick, so, as silly as some of us may think he looks, I suppose that's his choice. :D
He sang a song titled. "No Love Dying " Perhaps sounding some what better than "On Days Like These." :)
