Thank you all very much for the lovely welcome replies. I haven't had time to listen to much music recently, I didn't realise how much there was to deal with at a time like this, but Harry's funeral service was met with approval by all those who attended, many who had travelled distances to be there, and who else but our Matt singing the final song. Softly As I Leave You.

My mum has asked me to choose three Matt songs for her funeral and Softly is an automatic choice for the finale ………...Gordon Banks finale was Frank Sinatra's My Way which many other people do choose

Yes, Robert I saw that they played Frank Sinatra's My Way. Apparently it's the most requested song played at funerals. Maybe Gordon chose that himself, and if his goalkeeping had anything to do with it then maybe it wasn't such a bad choice.
I knew what Harry wanted, our choice wasn't for hymns, and so for the coffin's entrance it was Al Martino's "Speak Softly Love" and because of both our love of music, my nephews Eulogy was followed by Harry Secombe's … "Life Is Nothing Without Music." followed by poems from our Three Great nieces and Great Nephew . Al Martino's " More Than Ever Now " and for the final curtain Matt's "Softly As I Leave You "

Sandra when is your mum's birthday? My mum was September 5th and she would have been 98 this year. Her youngest and only surviving sister is 90 in June,

Sandra, your mum couldn't have chosen better. "Moonlight Serenade" is a classic and "Dream" is a typical Sinatra.
I chose Sinatra's "I'll See You Again." for a friend 's funeral. I will probably have that for mine.

It looks like there's longevity in your family genes Karl.
There are quite a few in mine too. My mother was 96, when she died, plus one of her sisters was 94, and two other sisters in their Eighties.
My own Sister who died in November was 88, i'm catching up.
