Hi Gray, anything's possible the way things are turning out with this production.
Although it got an excellent write up in the newspaper last week.
The reporter stated that he never could imagine anyone playing the role of Maria like Julie Andrews, but Connie Fisher is unbelievably brilliant.
He then went on to say that Leslie Garrett is the star of the show.
Of course The Sound Of Music has and always will be associated Julie Andrews, but we saw Petula Clark in 1981 in this role and she was wonderful. :)

Or he just didn't see eye to eye with someone Robert!

When I saw Lesley Garrett was the Mother Superior I felt a little sorry for Connie, as I thought she might be overwhelmed by her sheer presence and vocal ability.

All the posters for the show on the tube in London advertised it as starting on 3 November (last Friday). Now they are saying it will be 15 November. Clearly this is to give the new guy time to learn his role, but what happened to the people who's tickets were for the show between 3rd and 15th? Presumably they are allowed to use them for later performances but it seems a trifle problematic if the shows are all sold out.

Hi Jon, still doesn't seem much time for the guy to learn his new role though does it.
On trying to book for seats for an evening this month we were offered U row in the stalls, the ticket face value £45 selling at £56.50.
We declined the offer and decided to wait, just in case Connie or Leslie decide to pull out.

Hi Lena and Harry

Sounds like a wise decision you've made.

Hi All,

Sir Terry mentioned on Radio 2 this morning that he had attended a "special" performance last night of "The sound of music."
He was VERY impressed with the show - Apparently he met all the cast members afterwards - Sir Terry said that Connie was lovely! :D

I read a damning review of it in one of the new free London papers that have appeared in the last few months. It was from someone who said he had been to all the shows in the West End over 24 years and he thought this was the worst he'd ever seen. He was particularly scathing about the male lead who's dropped out, and also said that Connie was clearly very nervous. I think this may have been a preview production.

well this evening is the opening night for "The Sound Of Music " and it's a known fact that even professional's will admit to being nervous on the first night of a production.
With all that's happened before and during rehearsels which must have been extra difficult for Connie to cope with, we wish her all the very best and look forward to seeing the reviews.

I heard on the radio this morning that Connie was absolutely fearless, and really looking forward to tonight.

I also read that she is demanding more money since Emma Williams left--which is fair enough I suppose! I also read that she insists on a car to take her to and from the theatre---well, they could hardly expect her to travel on the Central Line---or a number 7 bus--so again, that sounds reasonable to me.

This is obviously a big night for Connie--not to mention ALW--he has taken a big gamble.

I really hope it all goes well and is a SMASH HIT !!

Watched a review of the show, with several outtakes, on tv this morning, and it looked a really great performance. Apparently, Connie is insisting on doing eight shows a week herself. I'm sure she'll be fine, she seems to be brimming with confidence

Just managed so far to locate one review this morning on the Daily Mail web-site--lots of positive comments on Connie---not so good on Captain von Trapp--but on the whole, I think the show sounds like a success.
