Returning to the names theme, my old university librarian's name was William PINE-COFFIN.

Did any forum member read the Literary Review's
prize-winning poem, 1938, in the Mail On Sunday?
It was inspired by a block of flats in Esatbourne and
written by teacher J.R. Gillie. It may be accessed on
the internet search facility.
It is a magical piece written in a style that rhymes, scans
and makes sense. A literary light piercing the often dark
obscurity of modern poetry. I commend it to the forum.

Hi Keith

Don't you mean Eastbourne? I'm turning into your literary conscience, arent I?!

I was recently looking up the names of unusual phobias and came across
coulrophobia, a fear of clowns. Apparently clowns are quite frightening
for some people, but you'd think the opposite would be the case.

I have a toy clown that I keep in my wardrobe because the grandchildren are scared of his smiley face!

I must try and remember that word--it is a good "Quiz" word.

Thanks, Jon
We're both leaders of the pedants' revolt
arent we? One wonders why the linguistic
gods didn't keep the fear of clowns simple, and call it
clownophobia. Referring to that song, one man's meat
surely is another man's poison. Still, we all get along
with you very well.

There has been an auction recently of Eleanor Powell/Glenn Ford memorabilia.............about 200 items of Glenns, but only 6 items of Ellies :( one of Ellies items was her "clown photograph" which I could have bid for  as I really wanted to own an item that belonged to Ellie (the other 5 items were beyond my pocket).......................but I just didn't like the clown photograph at all

Reverting again to the names = jobs theme,
I have just discovered that the government minister
for Community Care is Phil Hope. He is currently
considering legislation to protect elderly folk from
abuse; apparently children and animals are better
safeguarded.

I can believe that--after all we have an RSPCA and a NSPCC---but nothing for older people.

In fact George used to get furious when people came to us asking for donations etc to help the old people in Paddock Wood---he was in his 80's at that time and wanted to know when he was going to be offered help !!!!

It never happened!!!

I am enjoying reading all those names and the aged charity remarks Marian and Marian.

I always thought that I was just claustrophobic. But now I learn that I am also coulrophobic. I can't stand those people. It's so bad that I can't even listen to Goldfrapp's song Clowns or Edith Piaf's Bravo pour le Clown.

Nice to see that Robert is now on a first name familiar basis with Ms Powell. Hope you will be able to own some of her and Frances's items one day.

And there's "Age Concern. We're also CONCERNED that these associations keep coming to us for help.
Letters delivered, and pamphlets galore coming through the letterbox.
:?
All for the good cause though.
