But at least he spoke about him beforehand--the bus-driver reference. I think many of the big singers just have their most popular songs played---there are many back catalogue treasures that never see the light of day--as mentioned on a previous thread.

I am really glad the David played Matt first as I was seriously tired, as I had been awake the previous day until 6.00 in the morning !!!

And when I tried to have a nap in the afternoon, Harry would not stop barking !!!!!

On the show tonight David said that Frank always thought Vic Damone had the best pipes in the business............but I thought it was Tony...........or was it Matt............you don't who or what to believe

That's true Robert, you don'k know who or what to believe.
They could have been talking about drain pipes, bagpipes, or tobacco pipes.
Any compliment that came to mind or was expected for a singer at a particular time was better than none I suppose.

David is a big friend of Vic's.
The Sinatra/Damone quote went along the lines'.....best pipes but not the know-how..'.
The Sinatra/Bennett quote has been posted here before.
As Tony often says(in jest)'...but what did he know!...'

The David Jacobs collection tonight was OK, but Russell Davies was a bit tiresome tonight (the whole show was based on Gypsy songs) ..........also on a String of Pearls, Ethel Merman is singing (if you can call it singing) at the moment............ (nails down a blackboard comes to my mind when she is singing)

Ethel Merman is the primary influence for the ubiquitous "belt" singing approach of female singers of musicals and pop music.

I used to love when she appeared on The Merv Griffin Show to sing a show tune.

Matt was David Jacobs common denominator tonight :D DJ played The Nearness of You, From Russia With Love and Born Free :) ..............DJ also gave a mention to Michele........... and a BIG mention to the book The Singers Singer, praising it to the hilt :D

I was so excited last night when I heard David Jacobs mention the Book, and say that Matt was the common denominator this week.

It made such a change to hear Matt sing "The nearness of you" on the radio, it sounded lovely.

And I was so delighted that Michele had some excellent and very public comments about the book from David--well deserved as we all know.

The only drawback is that he did not mention "The Singles collection", but he did mention the cd to come next month.

Ironically David Jacobs chose 'I Only Miss Her When I Think Of Her' by Matt on his programme this week.
At the end of the song he said that he had had a phone call from Michele last week telling him of Mickies passing.
He said quote:'that Mickie was a much loved character in our world of entertainment'.

On the show tonight David said Frances Langford dubbed Lucille Ball in the 1940 film Too Many Girls.......... but alas DJ has made another boo-boo, as at IMDB it says Lucille was dubbed by Trudy Erwin
