Riots, looting & burning in London
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
I was disgusted tonight to see a clip of some young guys--apparently helping an injured boy-and as he stood up, they dived through his rucksack on his back--someone else came along--and instead of helping , just dived in too.
What has happened to this country in less than the space of a week--I can hardly believe the things I am hearing about and watching on TV.

It would appear that the criminal element are now in charge. They are laughing at the politicians and the police because they know that they will do very little to stop them.
Our sympahty lies with all the decent hard working people in all the areas that have been affected. They did not deserve what has happened to their community.

I think it will take a much stronger character than David Cameron to sort this mess out--unfortunately I cannot think of anyone in this current crop of politicians who would be any better !!

Marian I never thought of David Cameron as a strong leader to start with, I call him Mr. Smooth - however I have stopped watching the current news as it's making me so disgusted!

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
We have already mentioned the stupid softly softly approach that came into force , and now although the police are out in larger numbers they will not dare change their tactics for fear of being criticised and these scum bags know that. The police chiefs have said that the newly formed vigilante groups will not help. What they fear is that these groups will act and not hold back, and why should they when their businesses and shops could be burned to the ground and their families suffer !!
Good for them we say. !!!

I agree 100 per cent L&H

I hear what you're saying but often the vigilantes are no better than the thugs, the Police have to operate within the law.
Having saidi that the scum involved should thank God they live in this country as many countries they would be taken away and never seen again.
So they an't afford things, tough! There's a lot of things I can't afford but I don't loot and burn stores to get them!
Every person I have spoken to has nothing but scorn for them.

The vigilanties weren't out on the streets robbing and burning the shops down Karl, they were working hard for their families, so are you saying that if thugs broke into your home Karl, to rob and harm you, you would rather offer them tea and cake, just to give yourself satisfaction that you are not as bad as they are.
It would be their lucky day here, if we were of the same thinking.

Gray, stay safe. I think it is safe to say the violence has simmered down.
Is life back to normal?

I do not think that the violence has simmered down--it is just temporary--I would not be surprised to see more trouble at the weekend. How long can the Police hold out---we need more police--and tougher measures.

Lena & Harry - instinct is if someone breaks into your house to hit them as hard as you can., however if you injure or kill then YOU are on a charge.
You may admire the vigilantes but they are not working within the law and that is the point I am trying to make, that is why we have a Police force who operate within the law.
Years ago a Policeman could get away with giving someone a clip around the ear, those days are long gone and although many of us may not agree with that policy they have to act accordingly.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
I hope you have a lovely few days with your family in London Gray. At least there will be plenty of police about!

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Yes London is a huge place you may never see any trouble at all in the places you go to.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Hope you still manage to enjoy your break here in London Gray.
Not sure of your plans or schedule, but If I had been fitter we would love to have met up with you at some point, but perhaps another time.
