I wish all phones had that message Marian, as it would save all of us a few pennies or pounds. Also if no one voted, these reality programmes wouldn't be made in the first place   But I know most of you like them, though

Ahh - Lene & Harry have such good taste - they agree with my choice of winner of X-Factor 2005 - Brenda Edwards. WELL - SOME GOOD X-FACTOR NEWS!!! Brenda (who really should have won!) is appearing in Chicago. In fact shes been in it since April. I just noticed the posters on the tube today. She is playing the part of Matron 'Mama' Norton. She was by far the most talented entrant, and showed great versatility in performing a diverse range of songs. Her performance of 'Son of a Preacher man' gave Dusty a real run for her money! If I remember rightly, she lost out to Chico! But may be wrong on that! That said he was great fun and a lot more charismatic than the eventual winner!

Deanna Durbin is still alive and living in France I believe. One of my Mums favourite actresses from her childhood. I've seen a few of her films and she certainly was a talented performer. But the scene that sticks in my mind is her with greasy hand marks on her back (and maybe even bottom!) as she sings a rousing patriotic song - something to do with 'Pledging her heart to AMerica!)

Hi Mike--I also liked Brenda--I knew that she was in Chicago-they showed a little of her as Mama Morton in a special "Where are they now-x factor show" a few weeks ago. I thought it was brilliant the way she reinvented herself, and from just ordinary, she transformed into a very attractive lady. She has also been on GMTV talking about the current x factor contestants, just recently.

Talking of Chicago, a friend emailed me a while ago-she was so excited because she was going to see Marty Pellow in Chicago--she really likes him--so I sent her a Bon Voyage card--it was not till later I realised she meant the show "Chicago"--well it was a mistake any one could make--couldn't they ?

Hi Marian - I had a kind of similar experience many years, when I told my neighbour that I was going to work in China the next day. She saw me a few days later and was a bit surprised - 'where abouts in China had been to work' she asked - 'the Cash & Wrap desk in the 'Wedgwood Room''I replied. The realisation dawned as she remembered that I was a management trainee at Harrods!!

Hi Mike--thanks for reassuring me that I am not some kind of dimwit---anyone can make a mistake like that---but they are amusing though!!

And Harrods--well if you are going to be a management trainee, make it the best--dealing with the Wedgwood in Harrods!!!!--great shop--have not been for ages, but I love it.

That was all before I jumped ship to John Lewis - much much nicer people to work for! Harrods is not what it was I don't think. Its all gone a bit tacky for my taste now :( Selfridges is fanatstic though - really reinvented itself well.

Hi-Brenda Edwards was on GM TV this morning talking about Saturdays x factor. She is on every Monday--she talks a lot of sense---obviously because she has been there--done that--etc etc-she knows what she is talking about.

By the way Lena and Harry---you are just a few short of the magical 1000 postings---I wonder what will happen when you hit 1000---will we get fireworks and music and a moving banner---if not, why not !!!

Does Brenda view this website Marian, as you started your post by saying, Hi Brenda Edwards

The only way L&H will get fireworks, is by celebrating by themselves (late on) after midnight, if you know what I mean

Indeed there was Marian - I knew what you meant ! But Paul will probably tell you that the dash is inappropriate punctuation- it was more of a comma or semi-colon moment! :P :P But I'm not that pedantic

I didn't know that brenda had been appearing on GMTV because, as I think we discussed last week, I don't watch it! If anyone deserved to be noticed, it was Brenda, and I am glad that the X-Factor brought her that attention.

Michael - Did you mean to say Robert instead of Paul? Or perhaps you have known me for a long time? At work I drive people crazy with hyphens and dashes and their usage rules! How did you know that?! For example, I would have suggested that Marian put a space on each side of the hyphen. But I understood what she meant.

Everyone - Please keep me updated on the progress of Emma Bunton and Spoony on Strictly Come Dancing which starts soon. Thanks!

Sorry Paul, I meant Robert! There are just too many pedants on this board, I get you mixed up

Whose Spoony? Strictly Come Dancing back on already? Must mean the clocks are going back soon. Last years was fantastic, and the best man won! Wonder what ITV will retaliate with this year? Ant & Dec present Celebrity Reality DIY Supernan Love Ice Chef anyone?

Spoony is a club DJ specialising in UK garage music. He was part of the Dreem Team with Mikee B and Timmi Magic. Remember them? (We certainly do touch on all kinds of music on the Matt Monro forum. :) )

For the past four years Spoony was week-end breakfast host on Radio 1. He was an excellent presenter and I always 'listened again' to him. He loves all kinds of music, but especially Prince, Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack, Michael Jackson, Craig David, and Lemar. A few weeks ago, he was replaced by younger persons on Radio 1. I'm hoping that he gets a Radio 2 programme presenting R & B music of today and yesterday. I feel that's missing from Radio 2.

I sent him a message wishing him well and he actually replied to me! He seems like a genuine nice guy. I'll add that besides music he loves golf and the Liverpool football team. He may mention them on Strictly Come Dancing.
