Riots, looting & burning in London
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
I just hope everyone stays safe and nothing happens to you all. London is a beautiful and wonderful place to go! Hopefully from what I am seeing on the news here in the US and on BBC America it has calmed down. Let's hope it stays that way!

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
We have a gentleman named Bill Bratton former Los Angeles police chief from New York, coming over to the UK to talk with the governing body about tackling these crimes. He is not here to tell them what they should or should not do, but he has 30 years of experience and any suggestions will be welcome, even though many of us could tell them how to tackle and deal with these yobs ourselves.
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
We definately need some tough action.
On Thursday, when my friend and I were shopping in Tonbridge, she went into a shop selling second hand books-bought 2 totalling £1.10, and as she did not have change, gave them £1.20, and said --keep the change.
The assistant thanked her, saying every little helps--then went on to say that the previous day, a lady customer had come in to collect an order, so the assistant went to the back of the shop---but there was no order--while the assistant was gone, this woman stole all the money out of the till and vanished !!
THIS WAS A CHARITY SHOP. How low do you have to be to steal from a Charity shop !!!
Mind you, I have seen many shops with padlocks and chains round their charity boxes---so maybe more common than I thought.
Also --again , in Tonbridge--not what is classed as a deprived area---I went into Sainburys last week, to look for some chewing gum--to be told it was all now on the cigarette counter, where they could keep an eye on it, as the whole lot would just vanish from the shelves !!!!!!
Why would anyone pinch chewing gum !!!!!

Yes, it makes one wonder as to what depth people will sink to Marian, but one piece of good news this morning is that they have caught and charged the vile, cowardly yob who robbed the Malaysian boy of his belongings from his rucksack while he was bent over in agony and with blood pouring from a broken jaw. !!!
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
That is just horrifying. Hearing your first hand accounts just mortifies me. I pray that peace shall prevail over the whole of England, and the miscreants shall be dealt with accordingly. It's a shame when charity shops are robbed and people actually result to pinching gum. I could see a child pinching a pack of gum, but an adult? Again just be safe everyone. I'll play a song call "A Summer Prayer For Peace" by The Archies from 1969 for all of England.
Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
thanks Eman--that is a really nice thing to think of to do for us--I cannot say I have heard that song, so i will check it out.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Thank you Eman. That is much appreciated.
Good that they have caught the low life scum who robbed the injured student and that he has been remanded in custody.
Looks like they also have someone for the Reeves furniture store arson.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
I hope the punishment fits the crime---all that furnuture and building gone up in smoke-I heard there were 27 flats above the store-so that is 27 homelees families, maybe some with young children , or illness in the family, or old people needing care---then all the jobs lost, which impacts on a load more families--not to mention the phsycoloigal problems that these people could suffer. I saw a tv interview with the father of the Reeves family, and he was actually on holiday when it happened and saw it all on TV-what a traumatic ordeal for him.
So, yes, i want more than a slap on the wrist, or a few months inside or community service, or being tagged---make him a real example of what will happen if anything like this should occur again--but I am praying that it will not.

Re: Riots, looting & burning in London
Thanks Robert--that was very effective--with the population numbers being read out over the singing--most unusual, I guess-and it could not be more of a contrast to "Sugar, sugar" !!
