Hi Lena and Harry

I shall definitely be listening to David Jacobs on Sunday then; Matt's rendition of "I Only Miss Her When I Think of Her" is one of my top favourite Matt recordings - I agree it is superbly sung.

Robert, Matt Monro only has one song featured. Actually this programme seems quite good (of course, I will decrease the volume during Robert Goulet and I fear Smile will be yawn-inducing). I'm especially excited about Vicki Carr, Jackie Gleason, Twiggy, Andre Kostelanetz, and Sammy Davis Jnr. I've never heard them play/sing the songs below. Who is Johnny Douglas? He must be someone famous, if he has a pure gold album.

Very funny Robert. :D As you know, he doesn't ever play the full version. I would like to hear his theme song in full sometime, as I have never heard of the song before. Either he's married to a Samantha or the song was featured in one of Mr Jacob's films.

Hi Paul--the song "I love you, Samantha " comes from the film "High Society"--Grace Kelly played the part of Samantha. I think the reason why David has it as his theme tune, is that he just likes it. He did play the whole version one Sunday night, some time ago.

Of course this song "Samantha" was a big hit for trumpeter Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen around 1958, after his other previous hit, "Midnight In Moscow". Kenny was very popular on radio and made many tv appearances at the time.
Kenny Ball is still going strong and performing to audiinces. :)

Not only the usual selection of good music tonight on David Jacob's programme, but our Matt featured once again with added compliments to Michele for her hard work and dedication in bringing us "The Rare Monro" and from Disc One we heard "When I Look Into Your Eyes" with Matt giving it the Spanish treatment.
Alma Cogan wasn't forgotten and David played one of our favourite tracks of Alma's "What Is There To Say" from her album "With Love In Mind".

I've only listened to the first part of David Jacobs programme thus far. Just how wonderful is Ray Bolger and Eileen Herlie's performance of Once Upon A Time from Charles Strouse and Lee Adams' musical All American! I've played the song on the piano for years as I feel it's one of the best American musical songs and it's not played as often as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter, and Jerome Kern songs. I have to get this recording, but I couldn't find it on HMV's website and it won't be at any American record store. But I'm sure I'll find it during my next visit to Disneyland, i.e., the HMVs and Virgin on Oxford Street.

Was anyone listening to David Jacobs tonight. Among a great selection we were treated to Matt's beautiful rendition of "Time After Time". There is once again a change looming on Sunday's Radio 2 programmes. Firsly, putting "Pick of the Pops" on earlier in the afternoon is perhaps an indication of what's to come in the next shake up. We all remember the last most disappointing change that occurred was when they relegated Desmond Carrington to a half an hour slot on a Tuesday evening. Anywayit's not all doom and gloom, we still have Russell Davies whose time is to be changed to the evening, and David keeps the same time.at 11'o clock.

I heard Matt L&H 8) but I like Russell Davies in the afternoon :!: Radio2 is NOW becoming the a NEW Radio 1. All the easy listening shows are being reduced or being got rid of completely in favour of more "popular" music

Yes that's true Robert, but it's the controller who pulls the strings and makes the changes and if it's the same person in control of Radio 2 , to whom a host of us protested at the last shake up, there's little hope.

Wasn't it lovely to hear Matt sing "Time after time" on David Jacobs last night--one of my favourite songs.
