FRIDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT .BBC Concert Orchestra.

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:30 pm

We listened to Two hours of wonderful music for the First of this series on Friday Night the 20th, but each Friday for the next Ten weeks "Friday Night Is Music Night" is featuring a 60th Celebration of The BBC Concert Orchestra that began in 1952, but with added programmes broadcast 20 years before this time when this orchestra was first known as The BBC Theatre Orchestra, and re-named again as the BBC Opera Orchestra in 1949.
Each concert will be featuring some of the music giants such as Sydney Torch, Robert Farnon, Eric Coates and many more plus performances from our favourite singers past and present and Matt is named as one of them. :) :)

We were at The Mermaid Theatre last night for the Friday Night Is Music Night concert...They Played The 'All's, with Barbara Windsor, Anita Harris, Roy Hudd, Mark Walsh, and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Barbara Windsor was compere, Anita Harris sang several songs including "Burlington Bertie," "The Boy I Love Is Up In The Gallery" " Following In Fathers Footsteps" "Someone To Watch Over Me" with a full house audience participating
Roy Hudd told a couple of Scotland's old comedian and singer Will Fyffes Monologues, and sang Fyffes well aquainted song "I Belong To Glasgow!...even though he was born miles away in Dundee  :) and a typical Music Hall song..It's A Great Big Shame.
( my Brother -In-Law does it just as good ) :D and Mark Walsh told a few Max Miller Jokes, and played the banjo. Yes..you've guessed, George Formby songs " Leaning on the Lamp post" etc.
Barbara Windsor spent the entire interval going to every part of the theatre meeting and chatting to every one. They all joined together at the end, and Barbara gave her rendition of " My Old Man Said Follow The Van"
Enjoyed by all !!!

We were supposed to be at our local theatre tonight to see The Nick Ross Orchestra but it has been cancelled.Presumably through lack of numbers :( :(

Yes, we both enjoyed the show thanks Marian.
Rumour has it that "The Mermaid Theat "could be under threat due to the work going on at Blackfriars stationn.
We'll have to see, but wonder where the FNIMN will locate to.

Ahh sorry to hear that your show was cancelled Sandra and John.
That's always disappointing. :(

A friend of mine in Chelmsford sometimes goes to The Mermaid and tells me a lady is always there drawing people.
It's a theatre I would like to see sometimes you're lucky living down that way!
