my Dad was a Yorkshireman ...and came from Cottingham in Hull ...He met Mum in the army ...she worked in the Naffi ....as i got older i was aware he talked a little different to me and he would always pull my leg when i asked him to say butter ....in a kentish way but he would never do it ...and always hgad a cheeky grin when i think about it as he said it ...i wish he was here to see the honour

I wonder why, in all the coverage of Hull's successful bid,
there is not one mention of the city's full name: Kingston-upon-Hull.
Philip Larkin, like his city, has confessed a preference for being
on the edge of things, perhaps the better to observe the world
around him. This verse, accessible on the internet, perhaps sums him up:

Yes Keith, no mention of Kingston-Upon-Hull (but we really only call it Hull anyway) ................or no mention of Rugby League for which Hull is a hotbed of the sport with both Hull FC and Hull KR playing in the City

Maxine, Cottingham is classed as the largest village in the UK with a poulation of 17,000............actor Sir Brian Rix and his sister Sheila Mercier (Annie Sugden in Emmerdale Farm) were born in Cottingham

Thankyou for the info Robert ...i dint know that ..or,about the celebs....I knew Tom Courtney lived there as a child because my dear great Uncle told me that his mother and Tom Courtney's mother and Auntie played as children ...he comes across as such a sweet old man ...i love him in The Royle family as Dave's dad....The new Sofa ...he reminds me of my dad actually
