GALES

Post by karl » Thu Dec 05, 2013 9:37 am

Woke up this morning to a terrible gale and also rain, it is getting worse and sounds really fierce.

No doubt the Forth Road Bridge will be closed!

Anyone else experiencing this weather?

Karl, was thinking of you this morning seeing the weather conditions in Scotland and those other areas affected. Stay safe and all those affected by it right now.

Yes, it is pretty bad here today as well, the wind has been strong all night, looks as though it is going to chuck it down any minute.

Yes it was heavy rain here too which is all you need with a gale.

I phoned my family in Fife and the bridge is closed to all traffic (not surprised).

It's supposed to abate by mid-day but it really is severe and will no doubt cause a lot of damage.

L&H thanks for thinking of me! :)

I have been watching on the news and it looks just terrible. Apparently all the rail lines in SAcotland are closed too, and Glasgow Central had to be evacuated.

It is quite calm down here, a little colder, with some overnight frost, which you would expect in December. Although I think it is going to get worse down the East Coast.

I think the best place for you today Karl, is to stay indoors.

I went out about 1.30 and it was getting windier by the minute--I have a whole day out tomorrow, that I wish I could avoid--but I cannot.

According to the tv news the gales were 80mph, it certainly sounded like it.

The storn did calm around noon so I went out in the afternoon.

A road I drive on frequently (a mile from my house) had a tree landing on a car but thankfully nobody was inside.

Yes Mariana Glasgow Central station was closed due to roof damage and a neighbour of mine was off today as her new office building was damaged, seems to have a glass dome over the lift shaft and that blew off, must have been put on with drawing pins!!!!

These storms with high winds are so frightening--you never know what is going to happen--it just takes one gust to bring down a fence or a tree.

Oh dear--that would be a disaster for me, with the dogs.

However, it seems a lot calmer this morning-but vey cold. I have a really busy day today-I would much rather be able to stay at home.

Today is so calm, however I could have done without the fence repairs at this time of year, Luckily my garden is to the back so it's not really a priority but it will have to be done. Infact some of the panels will have to be replaces as the wood seems quite rotten despite the fact they have been well Cuprinoled over the years.

I see this in the news today. Hope you were okay John.

One of Blackpool’s oldest landmarks has been devastated by the gale force winds that hit the Fylde coast yesterday.
Blackpool’s iconic North Pier has been left severely damaged after yesterday’s dramatic storms, leaving owners counting the cost of the destruction.
Floor boards were ripped up, stalls demolished and a vital steel support beam snapped by the sea as the storm took its toll on the pier.
Staff are today busy assessing the damage.

That sounds bad Marian I wasn't aware of that, what a shame.

Let us know if you're ok John.
