DOG WAS TIRED OF WAITING

Post by karl » Thu Mar 13, 2014 10:02 am

I read this yesterday, it happened in Broughty Ferry, a couple were visiting an art shop (I think) and left their boxer dog in the car - she got fed up after five minutes and started honking the horn and she kept that up for 15 minutes as a passer by was watching to see what she would do.

She was the nicest looking boxer I have ever seen and looked young.

That confirms my theory once more - dogs are smart!

Yes, they certainly are.

People generally don't believe me when I tell them this but my dog can be very smart when he wants to be. He has actually learnt to speak a little bit of English, or should i say bark a little bit of English.

He is an odd dog who likes salad. His favourites are carrot, celery and cucumber. He has been clever enough to learn the syllables of these words and bark them in the same way to tell us what he wants.

First if he wants some salad as a treat he will come and bark at us twice as if to say "sal ad". Once at the fridge we ask he what he wants and he will bark twice for carrot "Car rot" Three times for Celery "Cel er ry" and four times for cucumber. - Hang on you say why four times. That's easy. Once we knew he was working things out we added another syllable to cucumber for him so it's "Cu ki cum ber"

Ok you say then he's learnt the number of times he has to bark for each thing. Well, there is that but he also barks using the same inflections and timing as we say the words to him. You can also ask him what the thing you are about to give him is called and he will tell you! We even have arguments. He will ask for something and i'll say no. then he'll go through the list asking about each thing in turn just to make sure i mean no about everything!

As I say very few believe me and one day I will have to film him and put it on you tube as proof, but it just goes to show there is more going on in his little doggy brain than you'd think.

So Richad your dog hasn't learnt to say sausages yet (remember Esther Rantzen?) What breed do you have?

Would love to see him in action on you tube.

We used to look after Amber ,my sister & bro-in-law's golden retreiver, she was wonderful. She liked you to hand feed her toast every morning and with every mouthful she made a sound inb herh throat that sounded like "Oh That's Good". She was a very loving dog that gave us sots of fun, I hope she's having fun in doggy heaven.

Strange you should say that. Tonight I cooked some sausages for my kids tea. The smell drove the dog mad. I told him. No you can't have any sausages when he barked at me. After being told this several times he stated barking three times the stopping with the same inflection as "sausages".

He is a very strange dog! (and a Cocker Spaniel in his spare time)

I can't Karl, he had pancreatitis a couple of years ago and nearly died so he is on a strict low fat diet and sausages are not allowed - although I did give him a very small piece.

It's a shame when they get sick.

I love the dog in Midsomer Murders his expressions are priceless.

If I want my dogs to come in quickly, I jst have to call out "Sausages" and they fly in. It can be any little treat, but because the word "Sausages " does not sound like anything else, they know they are in foir something nice.

Occasionally I buy cooked cocktail sausages from Sainburys, take out a couple and put the rest in the freezer--and 1 cocktail sausage can make at least 6 trearts for the dogs, when sliced up. Needless to say they love them, but only get them maybe once a fortnight if they are lucky !!!!!
