I've just been watching a discussion with a psychologist on BBC's "Breakfast" this morning about University research which seems to show different personality traits in people depending on the kind of music they prefer.
Many people emailing in were sceptical, as most people like more than one kind of music. The psychologist however explained this as people enjoy and listen to different kinds of music but the result is the same, producing a feeling of well being and euphoria.
Anyway, these were a few of the results..
Classical music - creative, high self esteem, but often introverted.
Easy Listening - gentle, but not very hard working.
Disco - hard workers, but not creative.
Heavy metal - unbelievably similar to classical - creative, at ease with themselves, shy and gentle.
Dance - surprisingly, not gentle.
Funk - outgoing, but a little lazy.

I'm dubious about those findings, Marian.
One gaping hole in the research is that it failed
to come to the obvious conclusion that Matt Monro
listeners are the most agreeable people on the planet.

Yes we are certainly gentle but not hard working!.....we shall see about that one.

I definitely agree with Keith, and I would also add we are loyal and appreciative bunch who are steadfast supporters of musical excellence.
I do admit some of us do spend quite a lot of time sitting on our a***s on this particular special website, which I suppose to those who don't share our level of commitment, might consider to be laziness!! but what do they know.

I agree with you all. I have had to get out of bed especially to type these few words....my, this was hard work!

Well I like Classical, Easy Listerning, Disco & Dance, so I suppose I'm an introverted egotist, outgoing but prone to bouts of working hard at laziness.

The sweeping generalisations of the various reports
on behaviour make me smile: Hilary, I used to be a
of easy listening devotee while I was a hardworking
employee, however, now that I am retired ...
A recent report that does make sense in one in which
people are encouraged to join choirs et cetera because
singing is so good for mind and body. We cannot all be like
Matt Monro, but doesn't mean we shouldn't have a go.
Anyway, it gives me an excuse to post a poem (Marian has had
a sneak preview) on the subject:

SING!

A rhyme bearing a rich musical ring;
the arrangement being the director's thing.
A little word like a bird taking wing,
a calling that nostalgic tears may bring.
A joyful offering with no tail sting
will the opening to the soul wide fling
easing the burden from each tired heartstring.
