Is football coming home we wonder. We have watched the four games so far, not too impressive and not too many goals, so GOOD LUCK for your first game England.

I am watching the World Cup on TV right now (12 Noon Pacific Time) & England is leading 1-0 with 17 minutes left in 1st Half.
I am wagering that the USA will comeback and the game will end with tie (2-2). Anyone of my friends across the pond want bet against me??
I will check with you after the game is over, and may the best team win (or tie!)

We were busy watching the game Henry, and now it's over, we are feeling shattered physically and mentally, like Adrian Charles is.
England's goalie won't be able forget this game in a hurry, although he did redeem himself later with a great save. Couldn't believe what we were seeing,

England had several more chances to score, but the USA never gave up, all credit to them, but England were by far the best team

I agree with you L&H

quite an open attacking game tonight, for a change

England were really very unlucky...........now I have heard that somewhere in the past before

.............Henry, I'm pleased you were watching the match, but was it just because the US were playing, or are you a football (soccer) fan ? ........................by the way L&H the name is Adrian Chiles

Yes, i knew that Robert, don't know why I put Charles.
England started off so well with that early goal from Gerrard Robert, we were expecting at least Four, but never mind they didn't lose.

My prediction was made before the 1st Half and it was a tie! My USA team was outplayed in the 1st Half, but I feel their defense held off the England team and played even with them in the 2nd Half. Our Goalkeeper, Tim Howard, is one of the best in the world!
By the way, I like to watch Soccer on TV but my old Alma Mater, UC Berkeley has won the most College Rugby Nat'l Championships in the last 50 years, and Soccer is much more enjoyable to watch than Rugby. The best way to spend a warm day is for me to watch Soccer at the Mayflower
Inn English Pub with some Fish & Chips and a pint of Guiness, and it's less than 1 mile from my home in Sn Rafael & the weather for the next 7 days
is going to be 85-95 degrees

We learn something new everyday Henry.........an English Pub...........Guiness...............
and Fish & Chips..............you sound almost English

.................can I ask you where the liking for Fish & Chips came from, Henry ? ....................lucky you too regarding the very warm weather, we have chilly Easterly winds to look forward to this week, with the temperature in the mid sixties

Didn't watch all of Hollands 2-0 win, but anyone who weren't able to watch the Japan V cameroon game didn't miss anything. Japan won 1-0, the only game they have ever won in a world cup tourament, hopefully this evenings game Italy v Paraguay will be more exciting.

Hi Robert---
I have loved Fish & Chips for over 60 years, since I was born near Fisherman"s Wharf in San Francisco in 1933......
That's why I like the "Sweet Bands" and other "Big Bands" from the 40s & 50s when they played at our High School and College Dances!!
ALSO-- Why do they allow those God-Awful Horns in the Soccer Matches?? They sound like the twisting rattle noise-makers that babies play with,
or very loud "Crickets"(many thousands of them) that rub their legs at night. In the USA we never hear this "Background Noise" when we view a Soccer Game. Do you ever get irritated by this noise??

Yes we do Henry........ but it is just a thing South Africans do at their soccer matches

they are called Vuvuzelas and yes they do get on
everyones nerves, but FIFA say they are here to stay for the duration of the World Cup

we think they sound like a LARGE swarm of Bees.........I much prefer to hear the fans chanting and singing during matches..........much better atmosphere

I find the noise from the Vuvuzelas much less irritating than some of the other noises at previous world cups-like trumpets...drums etc.
But yes, I too would prefer just the noise of the crowd.

I heard someone said anything is preferable to the band playing The Great Escape every time England is playing!

Did anyone see Ossie Ardiles being interviewed on Sky Sports News today ?...........he was truly the spitting image of Freddie "Parrott Faced" Davies

...................also did anyone see the doctor walking round the pitch with injured player from Uruguay tonight ?.............he looked like Alf Garnett to me
