We have a very loyal supporter of Eurovision amongst our ranks on the forum Mark. He seems to have disappeared and has been away for quite some time now, but if he should return....be afraid, be very afraid!!
  (only joking, or am I?)

Josh was on the tv early this morning practicing his song.
We wonder if a slow ballad will have any impact these days, but we wish him good luck on Saturday. :)

After watching both shows, I think that Ireland is the strongest song-by a mile--sung by Niamh Kavanagh, who won in 1993.

I also liked the song by Roumania--I think----it was a duet -called "Playing with fire"

But there are 5 countries who had automatic entry-including Uk--apparently Germany is the hot favourite to win.

We shall see-I am sticking with Ireland & Roumania--for the top 5 at least.

We only switched over and watched the final scoring (thank god ) but looking on the bright side whether Josh's song came first or last (which it did ) he will always be remembered. :) but also having said that, after they repeated Germany's song, I dread to think what the others were like. I thought the tune was boring and repetetive.

We chose Denmark-shows what we know :?
Poor Josh :(
When are we going to get a 'famous' person to sing our song as the Europeans
seem to do :?
O.k. I know-no one will ever want to unless they are tied down first
Enjoyed the gentle wit of Graham Norton though 8)

We switched over occasionally in the adverts on Britain's Got Talent, so saw a few songs along the way including Josh, and then at the end of BGT.
I thought Josh sang okay but didn't think the dancers helped :(
Apparently Spain got to sing their song twice when a fan jumped on stage and joined in, most people thought it was part of the show and didn't notice!

Oh dear-what a disaster. Quite honestly, I do not think it was the worst song, and definately did not deserve to come bottom. And I still think Ireland should have done better.

I fail to see how the German song qualified, as it was written by an American and a Dane, and was already a big hit all over Europe, so had the added advantage of familiarity.

So I was totally wrong-as usual !!

At least I got the result of American Idol correct.

The aforementioned Eurovision fan is here lol

I have to confess that we were at a P!nk concert in Cologne on Saturday night so missed the whole affair! We did see the last few rounds of voting on German TV and they were VERY excited by the result. On Sunday morning the usual bizarre mix of German sing-along TV shows from Hamburg or somewhere cold looking were all singing songs praising Lena and 'Satellite'. All of their news programmes on TV & Radio had it as their number one story, and all of the newspapers had it as fron tpage news. I am happy for germany - I think it is a worthy winner personally, its certainly very catchy and works as a pop song.

But it was not my fave to win - that was more likely to Belgium or Iceland although Denmarks song was pretty good too. Nice to see a lot of the 'old' Eurovision countries doing well for a change - this is the 1st Belgium have qualified for years. And a winner from Germany too. As Mariana says, the song seems to have had an advantage in being well liked and publicised around Europe, as was Norway's entry last year.

As far as the UK goes, this years whole process seems to have been a purposeful contrast to last years entry. No hype, or razzamatazz, and therefore no expectations. The rest of Europe, I think, sees through this a mile off. We do need to put a better song forward and a more serious selection process. Sending a song written by a 1980s pop svenghali sung by a karaoke singer just won't do. But maybe the UK just isn't interested in impressing Europe anymore.

I thought many of you would appreciate the attached Eurovision parody from Germany, ironic really as they only won once during the 'old days' that this song looks back on. And of course, since the making of this sketch, Germany HAS won again! Hope you enjoy it - I think they are only joking when they say at the end that maybe they need to go to war again! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2Q0Qj ... my iPhone
