JOE FRAZIER

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Tue Nov 08, 2011 10:28 am

Sad to hear that world boxing champion Joe Frazier known as (Smoking Joe) has died at the age of 67.
His career spanned during the years 1965 to 1976 when in 1971 he defeated Mahommed ALI winning on points.
R.I.P. Joe Frazier.

Their "thriller in Manilla" was the best heavyweight fight of all time, apparently (I do remember it) :) ...........RIP Smokin' Joe Frazier :(

I have great memories of the days when Boxing was a sport that had so much more interest and enthusiasm than it appears to have today. Families would sit around the radio to listen to those great legends, even before, Joe Frazier and Cassius Clay, fighters like Joe Louis, Marciano, Gus Lesnevitch, Freddy Mills, Bruce Woodcock, to name a few, who were hungry and were fighting to win.
Somehow fighters of today dont have the same appeal.

Yes, great times then Marian. Rocky Marciano was without doubt one of the best, and sadly died in a plane crash. He and Al Martino were very good friends.

Maybe one of the reason's boxers do not get the same recognition these day's is that all their world championship fights are on Box Office which have to be "bought" to watch all those title fights nowaday's, wherea's in the 60's and 70's all the big fights were free to air on terrestrial TV, which I think makes a difference as more people watched in those days  :)
