Look What I Found

Post by karl » Tue Apr 03, 2012 11:38 am

I just found a stack of theatre programmes from concerts and plays over the years, I wondered what had happpend to them.

There's Jack Jones, Cleo Laine, Cilla Black, Jackie Trent & Tony Hatch, Cliff Richard, Lulu etc, also some Playbills from America including Chicago long before it really took off. It starred the late great Jerry Orbach and Gwen Verdon.

There is also the Playbill from Over There at the Shubert Theatre New York, now I remember that starred two of The Andrews Sisters but their names meant nothing to me as I never knew much about them, however I see in the cast John Travolta and Marilu Henner of Taxi fame.!!!!

It's truly amazing that people you have seen over the years end up becoming huge stars. I also remember seeing Anthony Valentine and Michael Crawford before they were famous but I have since seen Michael Crawford several times (Phantom Of The Opera & Barnum) among them.

There is one play I'd totally forgotten about called The Country Girl starring Hannah Gordon, Martin Shaw and John Stride at the London Apollo - how I forgot about that I don't know as I am a fan of all three actors.

Also found my programme from South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, Massachusetts when I saw Vic Damone with Lena Horne, I checked to see if Vic had signed it and he has right next to his picture, I remember speaking to him after the show.

How times have changed, the price on the Jackie Trent & Tony Hatch programme was 15P !!!!!!!!

I have quite a stack of theatre programmes--but the longest back one was for 42nd Street, that starred a very young, completely unknown girl called Catherone Zeta Jones.

You have sheet music too? I used to buy some of Dusty's just for the picture but we had a piano many years ago and there should still be sheet music somewhere. More recently I bought two sheet music albums on Dusty for posterity, one had the same sleeve as her current Hits album and the other is part of a series called You're The Voice where you also get a cd of the backing tracks if you want to sing along - the Dusty one is rather good.
