GLEN CAMPBELL ON TV

Post by karl » Sat Jan 19, 2013 12:29 am

I just watched two shows on Glen teonight on BBC4 the second being a wonderful concert fromThe Royal Festival Hall in 1978 - Glen was in superb voice and it was also great to see the late great Alyn Ainsworth conducting - he always looked like he was having the best night of his life. Good also to see Val Doonican in the audience.

We watched the first Glen Campbell show and enjoyed it, but hopefully the second show will be repeated.
It's sad about his Alzheimers, but he's been busy all these years.
Four marriages and Eight kids resulting from them.
Didn't realise that Don Black co-wrote the film title song with Elmer Bernstein that he sang in True Grit.

Don has mentioned finding the right lyrics for True Grit a few times during interviews in the past
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

I also saw these two programmes and really enjoyed them. I was surprised how many of the songs he sang in the concert I knew given that I only ever think of 'Wichita Lineman' and 'Rhinestone Cowboy' when I think of Glen Campbell. It was interesting that he sang 'Soliloquy' ("My Boy Bill") from Carousel too - not something I was expecting.

Almost every singer who performs that song does it well, Vince Hill does a superb version but I recently played a cd by Robert Goulet and was quite disappointed with his version which surprised me as he was such a great singer and I saw him onstage.
