DESMOND CARRINGTON

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Wed Mar 11, 2009 8:02 pm

Thank goodness we still have DJs such as Desmond Carrington spinning the good stuff on BBC Radio 2.
He played Matt's " SPRING IS HERE " last night and "Francis Langford 's BLUE MOON" Tony Bennetts "LOVER "
A nice selection.

Thanks for mentioning this, Lena and Harry. I love the themes of his programmes and his speaking voice. There's nothing quite like those older radio voices (Malcolm Laycock, David Jacobs, Brian Matthew, Desmond Carrington). But I especially love when he mentions he's broadcasting from his farm in Scotland. All sorts of calming images come to mind. :)

Those smelly images hadn't occurred to me. I was thinking of rain, flowers, gardens, tea, biscuits, haggis, blankets, fireplaces, horses, carriages.

:?: Did you listen to Russell Davies little tribute to Blossom Dearie a few weeks ago? I started to, but then was called away and couldn't finish the programme. I had waited too long to listen to it. :(

Yes I did Jeff, he played a couple of BD songs, then I think he ended the show with another :)

Yes, a really nice rendition by Buddy Greco. David Jacobs played Buddy's recording of "Teach Me Tonight" on Sunday evening.
Buddy Greco was multi talented, a very good pianist as well as a great singer.

Have been listening to Desmond Carrington. His theme tonight was winners of the Ivor Novello Awards.
Desmond said... This Recording Received An Award in 1960 and rightly so. Ahhh It was Matt's PORTRAIT OF MY LOVE. :)
