CILLA MENTIONED MATT

Post by karl » Thu Dec 26, 2013 9:48 pm

Johnny Walker was talking to Cilla Black this evening on BBC Radio 2.

She was asked what her favourite Beatle songs are and she mentioned she was asked to record Yesterday but thought she couldnot improve Paul McCartney's version - she then said Matt Monro had a hit with the song.

She certainly could not improve on Matts version

That's what I was thinking Robert.

And she said have said Matt Monro and not Paul McCartney. The song has been recorded thousands of times and the only one I can listen to is Matt Monro's.

Much as I like The Beatles, Yesterday or MIchele were never favourites of mine.

I much preferred All My Loving or Eight Days A Week to name just two.

Alma Cogan does a brilliant ballad version of Eight Days A Week but the first version I had on record was obviously edited although it had a proper ending, later versions were unedited and the longer version had a jazzier piece coming in after the ballad ended, it totally ruined the mood.
