PORTRAIT OF MY LOVE

Post by mariana44 » Tue Sep 16, 2014 12:46 pm

I have just seen the list of tracks on the newly released set of cds from Johnny Mathis "global masters", which includes 2 discs of singles, never before on cd, plus 12 tracks that have never been released before---including Bluesette, Shall we dance----and big surprise "Portrait of my Love" - I think both me and all the other Mathis fans had no idea that he had recorded this song. Great excitement on the Johnny Mathis facebook page !!!! But the set costs almost £60, just totally out of my reach at the moment.

Not out till 17 November, Karl. Advertised on Amazon but no track listings. The set consists of the Mercury albums that are already available singly; the so-called 'Broadway' album is already available. There is also a set of non-album singles which may be of more interest - quite a few of these are on Youtube and it would be good to have them, though I'm not sure I'd fork out the £60 quid for this if they can't be obtained separately.

Yes I saw it on an American site Jon but I will be home from the States before the release but like you I won't be paying £60 just for the rarer tracks as I have the albums already on cd.

Yes, Karl you are right. I just copied and pasted from facebook. I have that one as a pic cover single. But it has never been on a cd before. And the ones marked have never been released in any shape or form.

Something to look forward to Marian!! .....

Was reading about Barbara and she said she asked women singers to join her on cd but they didn't get back or something but the men were there for her  .....

It was an interview she did on American TV or something .....

I love her song that she did with Donna Summer ...
Softly, I will leave you softly
For my heart would break if you should wake and see me go.....

That is right, the interview was mentioned on facebook--on the Tonight show, many years soince she had done an interview like that.
I think her voice suits a male singer best-love the Bryan Adams duet. the one with Donna Summer "Enough is enough" great song.

Talking of duets, i see that Barry Manilow has a new one in November called "Dream Duets". i know nothing else about it. But I do love Barry so will be waiting for that one.

Thanks for the list, Marian. I recognise several of those tracks from youtube but they are from his earlier period. There are other non-album singles such as "Take Good Care of Her" and "Walking Tall" but these are from the 70s, I would imagine; shame they're not included as well.

I think there may be quite a few of those, and I agree it would be good to have them all.
There is a new Christmas cd, compilation, i think, but it does include some Christmas tracks that have never been on cds, noticably " christmas in the city of the angels" which I bought as a single long ago in Us, but have since lost it !!!

Maxine I hated Josh Groban's Xmas cd and yet I like him and have several of his cd's, for a joyous time of year I found it depressing.

And Jon the 70's' Johnny Mathis tracks would not be included on Global Masters as the Masters tracks were recorded when he was with Mercury in the States and Fontana here. There was a Global Masters cd released years ago I think it's a 2 cd set.

I wonder if Josh's choice of songs was a conflict with his Jewish roots ;0)'....maybe not ....I love his voice ...he could sing the yellow pages and I'd be happy ;0)"

( I say this as I have Jewish roots ...my dear Mums side ..which actually make me Jewish ...but not practicing ... )
