Going back to online shopping--it is often more convenient to buy on-line-I live in a village--certainly no record or book shop there--just the basic shops really, and i am over 7 miles from either of my nearest towns--with a 1 hour bus service to one town--2 hour bus service to the other town---quicker by train, but it is a mile walk to the station, and one town you have to change for--so online shopping is a boon for me--I am lucky as my friend Audrey takes me into town twice a month, otherwise I would not go.

I cannot remember the last time I bought a CD on line at HMV as Amazon have always been cheaper.........surely they should have tried to have been as competitive as Amazon over their on line pricing

Yes, being more competetive may well have gone a long way, although we do remember on one or two rare occasions their prices have been cheaper than Amazon, but by the time you receive them you've either grown a beard or your funeral has been planned for you.

The West Wing Complete Box Set at Amazon £44.75, HMV £70 !!!!

I took a trip to HMV today just to see how things were and before I reached it I actually saw several people wth HMV bags. Perhaps people are trying to boost their sales?

There is a blue cross sale on which might explain the rush.

Mike it was hardly a rush as they weren't really that busy and the blue cross sale is only on selected items.

Sad news indeed about HMV; I hope it will survive in some, preferably a high street, form. The blue cross sale seems to be on almost every item in HMV Oxford Street in London.

Well, I know I thought it would not be long before another big chain hits the dust-just did not think it would be quite so soon--BLOCKBUSTERS has gone---but althiough I walk right past one, every week, I have never been in there.

It's getting a moustache that worries me Robert. :) :)

Yes, Blockbusters have joined the list, and we have never used them either, but from what the public are saying, their problem was that they never upgraded or improved their merchanse.

The branch of Blockbusters in Forest Hill in south-east London, where I live, closed down some time ago. I see now that all 16 branches of HMV in the Republic of Ireland have closed and the company there is in receivership, a worse situation than being in administration like it is in the UK. Staff there are holding sit-in protests, claiming they are owed money by the company.
