Now, I did not know that Roger Whittaker had done a version of "Happy Everything"--I had quite a few of his records at one time because George liked him.

I like Roger Whittaker as well Marian, doesn't ring a bell with me either, I have quite a few of his cd's. He records more in German language now.

Tickets for the final of the of the Swedish 'Melodiefestivalen' to choose their 2009 'Song for Europe' sold out in just 20 minutes. The 16,000 seater 'Globen' Arena in Stockholm has held the event for the past 6 years

The televised Melodifestival lasts five weeks and consists of six live shows: four semifinals, in which eight songs compete; a Second Chance round featuring songs which narrowly missed out on qualification from the semifinals; and a grand final. Ten songs comprise the final: two automatic qualifiers from each of the semifinals, and the two most popular songs in the Second Chance round

Melodifestival has run since 1959

Lots of talk about Eurovision at the moment with Andrew Lloyd Webber writing the song and the public choosing the singer or group to perform.
I can't say I have a particular favourite among the finalists so far, but maybe someone will stand out later.
I'd prefer it if they had a real singer to sing, not all these wannabees!

Possbly that has been the problem over the last few years of Eurovision.

I'm really surprised that Andrew LLoyd Webber
has entangled himself in the discredited Eurovision,
which has become a musical farce. Melodifestival
seems to have more credibility, Michael.
Re Roger Whittaker, I saw him on Songs of Praise,
I think it was, and I was impressed by a beautiful
song of his own composition that I cannot now remember -
can anyone enlighten me?

Well I watched the show tonight. Still don't have a favourite. Jade seems quite dynamic, and Emperors of Soul maybe.
Damien went tonight, but I'd have preferred Charlotte to have gone.
She's too 'twee' for Eurovision I feel.

This programme does not really compare to "Maria" "Joseph" or "Oliver"

To me , it is just like a mini X-Factor--the only difference being that thw winner will sing a song by ALW at Eurovision. I think the singers are Ok--but I can see nothing special there. Jade came from nowhere in the auditions to take last place--with a horrible , practically unrecognisable version of "Natural born Woman".

The most interesting part from last night was hearing that the Lyricist is to be Diane Warren--a big big surprise--firstly she is American!

However, she is very, very talented, and has written many many great songs over the last few years, for some of the biggest singers--songs like
"Unbreak my Heart" "How do I live"--loads more.

I am intrigued to see what this great pair come up with for Eurovision.

David Grant was on the Alan Titchmarsh show one afternoon this week discussing the Eurovision -Andrew Lloyd Webber show, and he said that we need a good singer with a big name to give us any chance of getting anywhere in this contest, and he is absolutely right.
That's exactly what it has lacked these past few years. I've heard better at Karaoke nights. I thought Damien, who was was voted off the show last week was by far the best singer of these other Five abysmal hopefuls. How the public chose Mark in preference and ALW chose Charlotte in preference beats me. Is ALW losing his ability to recognise a good voice, or his hearing perhaps.??
I couldn't be bothered to watch it anymore. :?

I'm sure we don't stand any chance at all in Europe with whichever of these losers wins, even with an ALW/Diane Warren song. :? :?

I have to agree that none of these singers look --or sound like--Eurovision winners.

Even with the combined talents of ALW, and Diane Warren, to add a "pop" element to the song, I do not have much hope.

We definately need an established singer--as well as a great song-and even then , there is no guarantee that we will win.
