SUPERB JACK JONES
Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Marian was the final show a full house?
I wish we could get Jack's BBC tv shows on dvd, they were great.
I hope Jack will be back soon, he's a rare breed!

Pretty full Karl, it sounded full anyway. A great tour and I hope Jack enjoyed it as much as we did. Apparently he got some hecklers in Dublin, over the video.
Hope you enjoy this, the last song...

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
What was to heckle about the video? It didn't even go on that long!
Thanks for that clip Marian, he was in gret voice again and terrific mike technique. I've never seen Jack wear a dark shirt before. When I saw him he wore a grey suit and white shirt, his days of wearing white suits must be over!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
What a great video--well done Marian-and no shaky camera work-I loved it.
I know just how you were feeling.
At the JM concerts, he often finished with "You'll never know--just how much I love you", and at , what we thought was the last concert at the time, we rehearsed it, and sang it to him, then the band picked it up, then he joined in--just unforgettable magical memories. At that time we did not have video clips, just audio tapes, I'd have loved a video clip from that night.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
They called out "we came to hear you sing, not watch a video"! Jack was upset, especially being the first night.
Jack only changed on that last night Karl, at the other concerts he had his suit on for the whole show.
Thank you Marian!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Marian that was so rude of the Dublin audience, many stars use video footage nowadays during their show.
Dorothy Squires once put a heckler in his place, she'd been singing her heart out for while then told a story and someone in the audience said the same thing as Jack's Dublin audience. I can't remember her exact words but she ended with "The Hell With You" and the audience applauded her.
Glen Campbell also had a heckler many years ago and he sorted him out too. I hope Jack did too?
Also the last time I saw Gene Pitney his warm-up was a lovely American lady and her husband was in her band, this Yorkshire sounding male voice piped up "Isn't Gene Pitney Coming On Tonight Then", he was shot down in flames by the rest of the audience. I met the singer during the interval when she signed her cd and apologised for the person's rudeness as she was a guest in our country. I still have her cd but her name escapes me.
Obviously some of othe Dublin audience had downed a few pints of Guinness before the show, but as you say for the first night perhaps Jack would be rather nervous anyway. I have seen The Celtic Tenors at the Dublin concert hall, it's 'a nice place.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
I see there is a favourable review from John Gibson of Edinburgh Evening News - wonders will never cease as he can be a real miserable b*****d when it comes to reviews. I remember one review he did on Andy Williams, if Andy had taken it to heart he would never have played here again, I was at the show and the man was brilliant. It really annoys me when reviewers who get free tickets give bad reviews that are unfair.
Actually I am amazed John Gibson is still around as he's looked like 90 for years!!!!!!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Any chance of posting the review here Karl, or maybe which date and edition it appeared?
Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Actually Marian I read it on Jack's website, sorry I forgot to say that.
Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
That's okay Karl, I should have known.
I had actually read it!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Barbara Streisand used to use a video in many of her performances. i believe she was criticised for this, but on seeing the concerts on dvd, I think it worked well.
And talking of being rude at a performance, I remember a show where Johnny Mathis was about to sing one of his hits, and someone at the front said , very audibly--"oh, no, not that song again !! " Which completely threw him--he stopped the orchestra and went on to sing a different song, and he never included the first song again in a concert.

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Marian that is incredible, and to think Johnny heard the cretin! Can you remember what the song was?
If these extremely ignorant people don't want to hear an artist then why do they go? I hope the Mathis connection had serious words with him after the show? Johnny is too much of a gentleman to give him/her an earful!

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Can you imagine somone shouting out to Matt "not that song again" when Matt was just about ot perform "Portrait" or "Walk Away" ..................as Karl said, why do they go in the first place, as artists always sing their famous hits .............idiots

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: SUPERB JACK JONES
Dusty once saidi on an interview it would be ungracious and ungrateful not to include the hits.
Also yeas ago Bobby Darin changed his act and went folky and the audience didn't like it so he had to put his famous songs back in his act.
Also Shirley Bassey very rarely sings songs she hasn't recorded when she's in concert!
Imagine making that statement when she started singing Big Spender?
