I saw from Radio Times he was playing Dusty.
By the way did I ever tell you there is a track on Dusty's album It Begins Again called Sandra, written by Barry Manilow. I saw her sing it at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1979 and it was even better than the record.

Found it on Utube a pretty melody but very sad lyrics underlying the state of that Sandra's life.

On Don Black's programme a couple of weeks ago he mentioned Johnny Mathis's new album, The Great New American Songbook, and said he'd heard JM was bringing out a new album soon and he couldn't wait to hear it. But it's been out for months. Made me wonder whether the programme is recorded months before transmission.

Jon, I knew it was recorded in advance, maybe a few weeks, because when anyone famous passes on he doesn't mention it straight away, but months in advance, you could well be correct

It was plain old "Matt Monro" tonight from Don..............who once again relied on the Hoagy Carmichael CD to play Matt singing The Nearness of You :) ................Don cannot know all of Matts CD releases !!!!.................Don also mentioned the passing of Vic Damone near the end of his show by playing My Foolish Heart .........the show is recorded weeks in advance but they added Dons tribute near the end of tonight's show  :)

Don played songs containing names tonight..........he stuck with girl's names throughout  ....................he played "matchless" Matt singing the lovely song Jean from The Pride of Miss Jean Brodie :) :)

A nice programme of names especially Jean.I have to say that Matt singing Laura is a far superior version than Sinatra's in our opinion :)

Couldn't agree more. Jean and Laura are two beautiful songs sung superbly by Matt. ☺

The orchestration on the Frank Sinatra version of Jean was good........but Frank's vocal just cannot be compared to Matts sublime version of the song :) ..............I think Don did play one boy song ........."Bill" sung by Eydie Gorme

In my opinion Frank Sinatra's version couldn't match most singers' as I regard him as one of the worst singers ever! Hugely, hugely overrated.

Well Jon that is your opinion but I saw the man in concert at the RAH and it was an amazing night.

Len Goodman is sitting in for Don Black this coming Sunday.............I know Len is a big Matt fan, so let's hope he plays his own chosen Matt song and does not have to go along with the BBC playlist that was probably prepared for Don in advance

Len sat in for Don Black tonight because Don has just lost his wife Shirley after 60 years of marriage :( :( ....................Len opened his programme with one of his "favourite singers" and played Matt singing On Day's Like These :) :) ...............and yes, Len did play his own particular style of music, rather different to Dons selection of songs.
