Very sorry to hear about Don's wife Shirley.

Sorry to hear about Don's wife too.
Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Don is back presenting his programme tonight.........paying a special tribute to his late wife Shirley ...........so it should be a bit emotional to listen to

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
The opening of the show was sad, with Don paying tribute to his wife, best friend and soul mate
............he recovered and played "matchless" Matt singing yet another repeat, a song he played just a few weeks ago
.......................Let's Face the Music and Dance ....................I maybe be being a bit hard on Don at this sad time for him...............but Matt recorded hundreds of songs, and he only played the song about four weeks ago !

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

A very sad opening to Don's show this week.A lovely tribute and then playing his wife's favourite Sinatra song.
Let us hope that he plays a few different Matt tracks in weeks to come.

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Don's late wife's Shirley's favourite song ...Sinatra's recording of "It Had To Be You" is the very song that we used for a video for my nieces wedding several years ago, so a favourite of ours too.
There is just one more programme left in this series, but this weeks one must have been the toughest for Don with Shirley passing away just over a week ago and so many songs that he felt connected to her to choose from.
His words and tribute to her were from the heart and the songs that he plays are from the finest songwriters and lyricists that we can definitely describe as matchless and will live on and Matt's songs will always be included, and one can only wonder or assume that Matt's repeated songs are those that are requested the most. Who Knows. A lovely programme though.

Don's voice sounded noticeably subdued throughout the show this week, which is understandable given his sad bereavement; he and his wife were clearly very close. I echo Robert's thoughts on Don repeating the same Matt songs when there are many others which could be played instead; however, I think we can forgive Don for this for this week.
Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Don saved one of Matts best for his last programme of the series tonight ................playing "as matchless as ever" Matt singing his glorious version of the wonderful Somewhere
.....................he followed Matts song with Yesterday When I Was Young sung by his sister-in-law Julie Rogers

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
He does play some superb music

Re: Don Black on Radio 2
Never knew Julie Rogers was Don's sister-in-law.

No Karl I haven't heard Jacks version but it can't be any better than Matt's.
