Englebert's back!
Re: Englebert's back!
So who came in 2nd and 3rd?
Re: Englebert's back!
Marian I totally agree with you, and I also wonder why this country is so hated when it's the first they all come to when they want a hand-out\/.
Eman to be honest who the h**l cares who came 2nd or 3rd. I watched the show for an hour until CSI NY started, I recorded the rest but then went back to watch the voting. I doubt if I will watch what I missed so will just erase the dvd.
Marian do you remember when the singers were not even allowed vocal backing? Can you imagine going back to basics? Then we would really know who had talent!
Someone suggested it should only be on radio then the vocal would be judged without any distraction, sounds good to me.

I have no idea who came in 2nd or 3rd---but Sweden were a good clear winner--it was not even close. Jedward came in about 16, out of 26--so I am not sure what that says about them--the judges --or us !!!

Thanks Robert!!

Karl: Russia has been part of Europe for many years, perhaps centuries. At least that's what we're taught in the United States.
Re: Englebert's back!
Paul I often wonder if Americans are taught geography at all as their knowledge of other countries is minimal.
We were never taught that Russia was part of Europe, it was the USSR and the Iron Curtain - it was a no go area as far as we knew.
When I was in New Mexico our tour guide told us American people would call up asking if they needed a passport to go there (thinking it was in Mexico!).

Re: Englebert's back!
Ugh don't get us started on the Olympics, driving conditions, road works, one way streets. The country has become a scrap heap.
We have got it all right outside where we live. Buildings that have been part of Kilburn and Landmarks that bus drivers and the public refer to when needing directions, all about to be demolished to make way for flats to be built to accommodate this over populated country. No wonder many of us feel resenful and angry
The Olympics in London will be the biggest mistake ever, and as Al Jolsen use to say...You Ain't seen nothing yet.

At least London is a larger city than Edinburgh, can you imagine what it's like up here? And besides the tramworks the gas are also re-laying pipes, so between them the city looks &&^^$$^%% !!!!!!

Re: Englebert's back!
Yes, I can understand what you mean, disasters everywhere Karl, but when our local ..Royal British Legion has to be demolished to make way for re-development, and as yet have only been offered temporary help with a room by a nearby pub, which in time will also come under the bulldozer, thank goodness we won't be around to witness what is inevitable for the country's future.

Re: Englebert's back!
i am really thankful that "olympic-mania" has not spread as far south as here---but I feel for anyone who has to live, work, or travel through London.
Karl, you saying about geography, I remember on one of our "Mathis tours" and we were travelling from Scotland to Stratford on Avon---and as we passed near Pontefract [Yorkshire], my Scottish friend Frances, remarked that she had not realised that we had to travel through Wales to get to Stratford ! I think to this day, she still does not know why we went into hysterical laughter !

I thoght the songs couldn't be released / published before the contest. the UK should have it's own contest for new songwriters.mariana44 wrote:The voting has been a complete joke for many years.
I still like Englebert's song--I just did not think it was right for Eurovision.
Why didn't we put Kate Bush forward--as it was a complete lookalike who won ?? And quite honestly, I did not like the song--and once again, it has already been a big hit in Europe for the last few weeks or so--how can they judge on a song that is already a big hit--why couldn't we enter---well, anything that has been a big hit recently.
I wonder what Michael thinks of it all--and I wonder if he was there last night !! Maybe I will check on Facebook.
