Mark posted on facebook on that Philip Madoc had died, aged 77. I don't know the circumstances yet though.
A good actor, who even turned his hand to comedy as the clip from Dad's Army on facebook shows.

Was he married to Ruth Madoc at one point?

I read he passed away in a hospice.

He was divorced from Ruth Madoc over 20 years ago Karl, and he had a second wife who he also divorced.
He did suffer from cancer and ended his life in a hospice.
